Alan and Guardian chased the men on horses, had forgotten about their belongings inside the forest. They ran with ragged breathing, failing legs, and being deprived of sleep, all because they thought someone was in trouble. While they ran behind the men on horses, they noticed smoke up in the sky, with a sudden burst of energy and fear, they reached where the men on horses stopped. To their surprise they found a village on fire, Alan, stood frozen in fear and unbelief. Guardian told Alan to help the villagers put out the fire before it had gotten worse. Alan ran to help the villagers while, Guardian went to find the source of the problem. Alan went to one of the villagers who commanded everyone to put out the fire as soon as possible before it had gotten worse. He asked what he could do to help, the man gave Alan a bucket and said, “GO GET THE WATER FROM THE WELL OR RIVER NEAR BY, IT DOESN’T MATTER, JUST GET WATER!” Alan ran immediately to a nearby river with other men and women, picking up water and passing to the next person repeatedly. Guardian was walking around the village and had noticed a scared man, itching to run away. Guardian ran towards him, jumping onto his chest, the man had fallen backwards, laying on the ground scared, looking into Guardians eyes. He yells, “ GET THIS BEAST OFF ME!” Alan hears and notices Guardian on the man's chest, he runs towards the man, picking Guardian up, he apologizes to the man and walks away to scold Guardian. Guardian tells Alan that, that was the man responsible for the fire, Alan asked how he knew. Guardian said, “ I am a fox, who can speak the human language, the foxes language as well, and that is what you have asked.” Alan was going to scold Guardian for such recklessness, but was caught off by a scream of a child, he notices a woman crying in a man’s arms, asking someone to save their child that is in their burning home. Alan runs to the river, soaking himself in water, then runs into the burning building that was once a home filled with memories, calling out “CHILD, WHERE ARE YOU?!” the child replies, “I’M HERE!” Alan runs into the burning bedroom, finding the child in tears on the ground, weeping as if he knew he was going to die, Alan consoles the child telling him he will take him to his parents outside. A creaking noise was suddenly heard above the two, Alan picked up the child, and ran immediately out of the room that had just engulfed in flames, he ran out of the burning home with the child, moments before their exit collapsed. The parents saw their child in the arms of what they thought to be a hero covered in ash and smoke. Alan gave the mother her child, and was given thanks by the parents of the child that Alan had saved . The man who was giving orders went to greet Alan, and thanked him for saving someone from their village even though he knew nothing of the child he saved, nor was he entitled to save him yet, he saved the child while putting himself at risk. The man said his name was Thomas Sutton, he had asked many questions. Afterwards the man who Guardian accused of being responsible was caught. [Man], “ I’m terribly sorry, I did not mean for this to happen.” Thomas took in the man since he was just a child, the man was fourteen years old, Devian Zappa, an orphan who knocked a lantern off of a table causing a fire. Guardian walked to Alan, Thomas, seeing this had asked if the fox belonged to him. Alan agreed. Thomas was willing to give Alan and Guardian a place to sleep when the night came. The two accepted and helped clear the burnt wood and small fires till the sun set, then drank to their good work. Alan and Guardian settled in a small orphanage within the village. When dawn broke, they were given food, and clothes for their adventure. Thomas, feeling generous, let them have a ride in a carriage that was transporting food to a market at a nearby port. When Alan and Guardian had gotten onto the carriage, the child that Alan saved ran to him. Alan asked the child what his name was. The child said, “My name is Johnathan Kathman, thank you for saving me!” Alan felt happy as could be, he said,” I would never let harm be done to a child with a bright future,”The child smiled as big as he could, and gave Alan a hug then left to his parents. The carriage began to move, with Alan waving his hand goodbye to the villagers, and Guardian smirking as they continued to lose sight of the villagers.
