Riku met up with Rachel , Ryan, and Mickey the next morning, and they went on a mission together. A figure stood in the distance.
"Vanitas." said Rachel. She took a step forward towards the boy, but Riku grabbed her hand from behind, looking worried.
"Riku, I'll be fine."
"But..."
He knew she was strong. Stronger than most people he knew, certainly stronger than Riku himself. But he couldn't help but worry that the events of that terrible day might repeat, that he might lose her again, possibly for good this time.
Still, Riku let go of Rachel's hand, choosing to believe in the girl he loved.
"...Right." He said to her with a single nod.
They approached cautiously.
"Well, well... You just won't stay down." said Vanitas. The silver-haired boy summoned Braveheart and took another step forward, but Rachel laid a hand on his shoulder. "It's alright." she told him gently.
"But he--"
"I know."
The black-hearted boy glared at her, and she glared right back, not dropping her gaze for even a second. Then Silver Hero disappeared from her hand.
"Rachel...?" Ryan and Riku looked at each other, then shrugged.
"I've decided that I'm not gonna fight you," Rachel told her nemesis, "Not today, at least. We're going back to the islands to hang out at the beach, and you WON'T stop us!"
Once again proving how strong she was, the girl got closer, hands on her hips. Her brother and two friends were gaping at her, as she turned away from a stunned Vanitas, who seemed almost afraid of her
"Shall we get some ice cream, then? My treat."
She went on ahead of them, and Mickey followed, but the other two stood immobile for a moment,
"That girl is not a princess," Riku murmured, "She's a queen."
"Agreed," Ryan said.
They went to Twilight Town, and bought sea salt ice cream, then headed home. Now sitting on the beach, the group chatted and laughed, watching the sunset till it got dark.
Ryan and Mickey both headed back, while Riku and Rachel stayed back. Rain started pouring. Instead of going home however, they ran under one of the ramps, waiting it out. With the sound of the rain, and being huddled close to Riku, Rachel drifted off, leaning on him. He gave her a sympathetic smile.
"Exciting day, huh?" Brushing the girl's hair out of her face and kissing the top of her head, he leaned back, slipping into sparkling ice blue-eyed dreams.
