Chapter eleven: Family

Rachel and Mickey wandered through a small island. Suddenly, a small blue creature, with long ears and big eyes scurried up to them.

"Aww! What's your name, little guy?" 

"My name... Stitch."

"Stitch... I'm Rachel."

The creature's face lit up, "Rayshell!"

He tackled her excitedly. "Whoa! Hold on. I... know you from somewhere."

"Ah-koo, wah, fren. Terra... Ven... Rayshell." 

That's right. Experiment 626...

"You didn't happen to see a boy around here, did you?" Rachel asked. As touching as this reunion was, there was another she was looking forward to.

"Ree-koo... fren?"

"You know Riku?"

Stitch turned over his shoulder. Two girls were beckoning him.

"Ohana." He said wistfully.

"Huh?"

"Ohana. Ohana means family. Family means... nobody gets left behind, or forgotten."

"Oh, that's your family?" said Rachel. She hadn't realized he had one.

He did it. He found a home.

"Yes."

He scurried over to the girls, who scooped him up in their arms.

"Gosh," Mickey said. "What was that thing?"

They turned to stare out at the ocean, and a seashell washed up on the shore.

Rachel knelt down and inspected it. It was split down the middle, a mix of silver and sparkling ice blue. She snapped it in half.

"What's that for?" Mickey asked.

"Riku. I've been wanting to give him something-- something that'll keep us connected." 

"Ray-shell!" Stitch called, running back over. Rachel shoved the seashell pieces into her pocket.

"Ray-shell! Hearless!" (A/N: not a typo, he's just pronouncing Heartless without the t) 

"How do you know... about the Heartless?"

"Ree-koo." 

Just as he'd said, the Heartless appeared.

"Wait here, little guy."

Rachel and Mickey rushed in and defeated the Heartless.

"Hey, do you know where Riku went?"

Stitch shook his head sadly. "Did he say anything?"

"Ree-koo say that he wants to protect the things that matter. Like friends... and family."

From what?

"I need your help. You see... Riku saw something from his past, and now... now he's..." 

"...Lost." Stitch finished. It was like he knew from personal experience.

"Yeah. But I'm gonna find him soon. I can feel it." She pulled the seashell out of her pocket." 

"Gosh," Said Mickey. "I guess we'd better look around."

They searched the island, asking people if they'd seen Riku. They went back to the beach after about two hours, and found Stitch, who sat down and inclined his head.

"We didn't find him... and we didn't get any leads either." Rachel stared at the ground, and the little blue creature jumped into her arms, nuzzling her neck. She scratched his head, and he jumped down after a moment. "You should get home," she told him, "your family's waiting."

"Ohana."

"That's right... Ohana."

The creature scurried back to the girls​​.

Nobody gets left behind... or forgotten.
