Riku sat on the docks the next evening, watching the sunset all alone. He turned, hearing footsteps as someone approached.
It was Sora.
"Hey, Riku. Feeling better after... um..."
Riku looked away, his guilty conscience springing back to life despite the constant effort to keep it at bay.
"Sorry about... what I said last night." Riku said begrudgingly under his breath, nervously tugging on his gloves, and not looking as his friend sat down.
The two boys sat and talked it over. They realized neither one was ever mad at the other, hugged it out and headed back.
They got up early the next morning to meet with King Mickey. He had come in the Gummi Ship with Jiminy.
"Mickey... Sorry about the other day. I was freaking out, and... Forget it. We'd better get going." said Riku, "See you later, Sora."
"Safe journey, you three."
It wasn't a safe journey. It was filled with Heartless, and lasers, and meteors, and they had no idea where they were going.
"Wherever our connection feels strongest." Riku decided, holding up his seashell.
"So? Anything?" asked Mickey.
"It's faint, but something's definitely coming through. But... It's not enough."
They went on in silence, until Jiminy hopped up onto Riku's shoulder.
"Say, for someone flyin' the Gummi Ship for the first time--"
Don't say it. Riku thought, Don't say it.
"--You're not half bad."
As soon as the words left his mouth, the ship hit a meteor, and they started veering, spiraling downward.
They crashed into frigid water, and Riku, unable to escape by any other means, broke the above window with his Keyblade. The three of them surfaced.
Something came flying into view a few moments later.
"Hey," A voice called. "Need a little help?"
"Hiro!" the trio cried out in unison.
Baymax lowered, and they grabbed onto his legs. Riku turned at the last second and spotted Jiminy. He extended his hand, allowing the cricket to climb on.
"You're lucky."
Riku and Mickey stepped into Hiro's room as he removed Baymax's armor. Riku tried to keep himself from shivering too much, and Mickey's teeth chattered. Jiminy was cupped in Riku's hands.
"H-h-how did you f-find us?" The boy stammered.
"I saw your ship. What are you doing here?"
"W-w-we d-didn't m-mean to c-come! We crashed!" Still shaking, Riku shot Jiminy a look and set him down near a lamp.
Baymax heated himself. Mickey and Riku leaned on the soft warm robot.
"Thaaat's more like it..." The silver-haired boy said with a contented sigh.
"You really don't like the cold, huh?"
"Islander."
"That explains it." Hiro said, laughing as Riku closed his eyes for a moment, then straightened himself up.
"So, have you seen Rachel?"
