After Riku, Rachel, and Ryan got home, everyone came to the islands and celebrated Rachel's return. The girl wandered off. "There you are." She said, finding Riku sitting on the beach. She handed him a sea salt ice cream, and sat down. "What're you doing down here?" "I dunno." He rubbed his arm, which was bandaged. The gauze covered a wound Larxene had inflicted. "Could be worse." Riku said, propping his injured arm up on one knee. "True." "By the way... I never thanked you for saving us." "Of course." A minute passed. "How long before I can take this off again?" "About a week." "What? Are you kidding?" "It won't be so bad." "I know, I just... get restless."
Riku's mind flashed to the aftermath of his kidnapping, when he'd had to stay in bed for days to recover his strength.
"I can still come along for missions, right?" Rachel hesitated. "You should probably wait until it heals." "Figures." Riku said with a sigh. "Aw, c'mon!" She squeezed his hand reassuringly and offered to stay. "You'd do that for me?" "Sure." "Thanks. I'm really glad you're back. I..." Riku trailed off, then smiled, and their eyes met, closing as they leaned in. Then Sora, Donald, and Goofy fell out of their hiding spot, and the pair quickly turned away.
While Donald and Sora argued over who was to blame, the girl and boy glanced back. The trio left after a while, and Rachel and Riku watched the sun set, finishing their ice cream.
"Rachel?" The boy called when they headed home. "Hm?" "I..." He wanted to blurt out the words that constantly ran through his mind, but thought better of it. "...I really am glad you're back." "Good to be back. Well... goodnight." "Goodnight." She leaned in and kissed his cheek, then they both went home and slept all night. Riku got up the next morning, and found Sora. "Morning, Riku." "Morning." They sat on the beach, chatting. "What happened yesterday?" "Larxene."
"Did... that?" Sora gestured to Riku's arm. "Is it broken?" He shook his head. "I don't think it's anything to worry about. Really, it was worse when I got it." Riku insisted, though it had been slightly sore since he'd woken up. They chatted more, and got on the subject of Rachel. "You're connection with her... It really is something special."
