Later that night, Merida was unable to sleep. She was thinking about the war, her sudden bethrotal, and Hiccup. Merida wondered if Hiccup and Toothless were doing alright. If this war somehow continues, she knew she had to stay with her kingdom and Hiccup would stay for his. She cannot take the fact that she will have to fight him. If there's one person between them who has the power to stop all that was happening, it was Merida.

Merida tossed and turn. The soft flicker of fire in her fireplace illuminated her room. "I wonder if Hiccup's alright." Merida thought. Maybe he was. The tent and bag will keep him warm. Not to mention Toothless. No matter how much Merida tried to convince herself that Hiccup was alright, she was restlessly thinking about him that it frustrates her.

The moon was bright and high up and Merida wanted to sneak out to the woods to see Hiccup. After a few moments of hesitation, she grabbed her cloak and a new bow and arrow before running off to the forest. It may be unnecessary to bring her weapon, but it's better to be sure. The stars twinkled like yesterday. Merida smiled when she remembered what happened last night. It was a moment of just Hiccup and her, her and Hiccup.

Merida arrived where she left Hiccup. She had only been in the castle for a few hours, but she was already frustrated. From a distance, Merida could see the tent. Toothless was sleeping, but Hiccup was out poking the dying fire. When Merida walked over to him, he looked up and his fave quickly lit up. He stood.

"What are you doing here?" He asked. "It's late, Merida. If they see you you'll get it trouble."

Merida looked gloomy. It was clear in her face because Hiccup's face suddenly looked worried. "Are you okay?" He asked.

Merida sat beside him. She set her weapon down and fiddled with the hem of her cloak. "I'm sorry." She whispered.

"For what?" Hiccup asked. He placed a hand on Merida's shoulder. Merida sniffled. Her eyes were starting to fill up with tears.

"I-I can't stop them. They want to start a war, Hiccup. I don't know what to do." Merida said. She was starting to shake. "I tried, Hiccup. But they wouldn't listen!"

"Shhh." Hiccup said, pulling Merida into a hug. Merida burried her face on his chest. "It's not your fault."

"Now, they want me to marry Ryan Macintosh. I can't. I won't." Merida said in between sobs.

Hiccup tensed. He hugged Merida tighter. They were quiet except for Merida's sobs. She was shaking out of fear and frustration. When her sobs were starting to disappear, Merida moved to let go. Her face was illuminated by the faint fire in front of her.

"When?" Hiccup asked.

"What?" Merida asked, her eyes still fixed on the fire.

"You and Macintosh." Hiccup said.

Merida covered her face with her hands. It took her a while to answer. "I don't know. I have to find a way out of this." She said.

They were silent again. No one dared to say a word. But it was okay for Merida. The silence was better than her parents telling her what to do with her life. She could not believe it. She had done things that angered her father. If he said Merida should marry Ryan, then she should.

When Merida took a peak at Hiccup. He looked like he was thinking so deep. They were side by side. His arms were folded, resting on top of his knees. When Hiccup turned to look at Merida, she averted her gaze.

"What is it?" Hiccup asked.

Merida looked back at him. "You seem to be thinking about something so deep." She said.
