Stella's POV: The past few weeks we have been constantly having cases. I never understood why the local police departments don't call us in. They wait until they have multiple bodys and no suspects or leads. Our last case had ended up with 38 deaths in the span of 3 months. They didn't call us in until the 17th body. Granted them most of them looked like either suicides or natural deaths but the corner ultimately ruled it out. It took us a week to find our unsub. When he found out the FBI was there he started killing. Five people a day. He ended up being a 25 year old white guy whose girlfriend left him for his best friend and they ended up being his final victims which is what led us to him. Emily and I went home expecting to be called in again within the next couple hours. Jackie had basically been living with us now since she had to watch Kai so much. "Jackie, Kai. We're home!" I yelled and heard the running footsteps coming towards me and Em. "Momma!" Kai yelled and hugged my legs. I picked him up and hugged him tight. I've missed him so much over the past couple weeks that I wanted to spend all night with him . Before I got the chance to say anything my phone rang. I didn't look at the caller ID, I just picked up. "Montgomery and Prentiss." I said out of habit. "Yay my favorite couple." Penelope squealed through the phone. "I just wanted to let you guys know that Hotch said we can have the next 3 days off and i was gonna ask if you wanted to see if the team and the boys wanted to go out to dinner tomorrow." Penelope said. I let out a sigh of relief that we didn't have another case. "Yea Penny that sounds great. I see if Kai wants to go and let you know." I said thinking it would be a good idea for the boys to spend some time together. Penelope and I said our goodbyes and I told Em the good news. "Hey sweetie do you wanna go out for dinner tomorrow and see Jack and Henry?" I asked Kai fully knowing he was gonna say yes. "Yea!" He said excitedly. "Okay buddy let's go to bed it's late." I said as I walked with him towards his bedroom. I tucked him in and read him a bedtime story. I kissed him on the head and went into the kitchen to make some tea. I walked back to the bedroom with my cup of tea and put it on the bedside table. Emily was just lying there staring up at the ceiling. I could tell something was going on through her mind. "Okay what's going through that pretty little head of yours." I said looking at her. She turned to me and looked worried. "21 people died while we were there. I just can't help thinking that part of this is our fault for going." she said. I could tell that wasn't all but i wasn't gonna pry. "It's not our fault. It's the unsubs and the police departments. They didn't call us in till the 17th body em. It was inevitable." She just nodded and pulled me close to her. I put my head on her chest and fell asleep.
Emily's POV: As Stella fell asleep on my chest I couldn't help but feel bad for lying to her. She is the best thing that has ever happened to me and I hate having to lie to her. I had just got word from my old team that Ian Doyle. The man I used to 'love' escaped from prison and was on the loose. I knew this was gonna end badly. But when.
A/n: this chapter is a lot shorter than the others but I promise the next one will be a lot longer.
