Nala's POV
The caught animal was a wonder.
Flowing tail and striking blue wings, paired with sharp eyes enclosed in patches of black, and the whole of its hide guarded with scales, smooth as a snake's.
It was huge.
I didn't say a word to Thunder or Suzume.
I merely removed the poisoned arrow, and treated the unconscious creature.
I used up all my antidote since it was so huge.
All the while, not saying a word.
Creature's POV
A hateful human. I pity the two bird slaves. It must have played some dirty trick to get them under its command.
I wanted to kill the human and free the slaves, but unfortunately, one of the slaves dived at the crucial moment, and I had to leave, in order to avoid hurting him.
The human took full advantage of my distraction and cut my wing. As expected. Not gonna die easily, huh?
I left, vowing to kill it next time.
But the human disappeared. I couldn't even find its slaves.
But the smell of fire lingered, and so I knew it was not gone. Only hiding.
Six days later, it came out, all patched up.
It was waiting nonchalantly, probably for its slaves.
Anger flared inside me, and I immediately dived at it, even though I knew humans are foul creatures that can easily trick you.
Just as my claws were gonna reach it, I was thrown to the side, and began to lose consciousness.
I looked at her.
Disgusting.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I woke up, without the familiar comfort of leaves around me. My right wing was bandaged and my head ached from the impact.
"Do you feel well?"
I jerked at the voice in my head, and realized that it was a human.
The Human. Same one.
"I'll kill you, and free the slaves."
It blinked and said, "No slaves here, big guy. Talk about killing me after you can pull your own weight."
I was furious. It saw that, and whistled.
The slave came down, and it told him something and left.
The slave was a fine hawk, though much smaller than me.
"Are you going to tell me that humans are good on orders of your master?"
It tilted its head in confusion and spoke haughtily, "I have no master, so stop spouting nonsense. Nala and I are comrades, if you can understand that in your bird-brain."
Now I was the one who was confused. How can a human be a comrade? They only care about themselves. I have even seen a mother sell her own child into slavery. How can such a species be called comrade?
The hawk left me to contemplate. I hated this, depending on the very species that left me an orphan.
