Akane Aoi watched in anguish as the sun began to set. His day hadn't gone very well from the start, but having to sit and do paperwork alone didn't make it any better. The pinks and oranges ricocheted off the window and blended beautifully.
Almost as beautiful as Aoi.
He smiled slightly at the thought of the girl he had been crushing on. It seemed to lighten his mood a bit and take away the reason he had been previously glaring at the sunset.
A few weeks earlier the school decided to hold a dance for the students, as a celebration of the end of exams. And of course as the Vice President of the student council he was doing most of the work.
On top of that he had yet to ask Aoi to the dance so they could fall in love and get married. His plan would have worked perfectly if it wasn't for the fact that Akane can't dance.
It wasn't that he didn't like it he just never learned how, and was regretting it. Surely Aoi would never get a date who couldn't dance so the red head had to learn and quick. At first Lemon volunteered to, but then Akane was put in charge of the preparations for the anticipated event. This left no time at all to learn, him having to spend almost every night with Minamoto Teru in an empty classroom doing paperwork.
Grumbling, Akane pushed up his glasses as he brainstormed some way to be able to pick up the skill in time for the dance. Just then the eldest Minamoto sibling entered the room, gently closing the door behind him.
"So you finally decided to come." Akane said with an eye roll not bothering to look up. Teru only laughed at this and took his seat in front of the Vice President.
"I was doing something," he responded before picking up a stack of papers. The red head glared at him through hooded eyelids before letting the subject go. He didn't feel like getting harassed again by the exorcist. His upper back was still sore from the last time he was stuck on the floor the whole afternoon.
Soon enough Akane's mind drifted back to Aoi and his dancing dilemma, but tried to hide his frustration from Teru. Unfortunately for him, the blonde picked up on his mood pretty quickly. They had spent almost every afternoon to night together for the last two weeks so he had grown to know his lower class man pretty well.
Teru peeked up over his stack of work and eyed Akane to try to get a hint at what was on his mind. The said boy's glasses were currently pushed too far up on his face and his nose was scrunched up cutely. The pencil in his hand wavered but never was pressed onto the paper. The blonde's mouth curled into a small smile as he slowly put his work down.
"What's wrong this time Akane?" He asked with a sigh realizing it was probably about a certain lavender haired girl. The Vice President didn't look up from the table, ignoring Teru. The eldest Minamoto didn't like this reaction. Here he was, trying to be a good guy, and he gets ignored. Teru's teeth clenched as he spoke again.
"I said, what's wrong?" He pressed, his tone much more stern and commanding. The blond just wanted Akane to vent about whatever guy hit on Aoi today and move on with his life. He didn't want his second to be mopey all night.
Akane frowned and went to tell his upperclassman to piss off when suddenly an idea came to him. What if Teru taught him how to dance? Knowing Minamoto he had probably taken lessons at some point, and really what harm could come from it?
"I need your help," Akane spoke, meeting Teru's eyes. The latter was a little shocked at first, this being the one time his Vice President has accepted his help let alone directly asking for it.
The blonde quickly cleared his throat and and covered up his confusion with a smirk.
"What's this about, you want me to teach you how to dance or something?" He joked. Akane's eyes widened slightly before he nodded and with responded with a yes. Teru stopped laughing to look back at Akane to see if he was serious.
Apparently, he was.
"Um—ok. I guess we could move the desks." The red head nodded and smiled, moving to get up and start pushing the furniture against the outer walls.
The president watched as Akane excitedly moved everything around, amused by the other boy's reaction. He seemed to really want to learn. Minamoto would never admit it but he definitely had a crush on the clock keeper. He was excited too, even if the dance wasn't meant for him, that he would get to hold Akane in his arms at least once.
After everything was moved and they had space, Teru unlocked his phone and put on the music. Akane had guessed that he had been on shuffle but in reality the blonde had put on one of his favorite slow songs—Can't Help Falling in Love by Elvis Presley—in hopes to make this moment last a little bit longer.
The sun was long gone by now, only pale moon rays dipping into the classroom. Teru clicked play and reached out his hand to his crush. Akane let himself get pulled into his upperclassman's waiting arms.
At first the boy with the glasses was confused. They weren't really even dancing; more like swaying to the beat. Akane was expecting some type of instruction, or at least to be the guy, but he kept silent when he felt Teru's hands grip tighter on his waist. They younger slid his hands around his partner's neck, staring silently as him as they swayed to the song. Soon the first lyrics rang through the air interrupting Akane's thoughts.
Wise men say
Only fools rush in
But I can't help falling in love with youThe red head only then noticed how truly handsome Minamoto is when he isn't being flirty or mean. He looked so calm and content standing there.
Shall I stay?
Would it be a sin
If I can't help falling in love with youTeru tried not to get his hopes up, but when Akane softly laid his head on the older's shoulder, he almost squealed. Instead he settled for pulling him closer; wishing he had the power to stop time instead of the boy in his arms.
Like a river flows
Surely to the sea
Darling, so it goes
Some things are meant to beNeither of the two wanted to break the peaceful silence knowing once they did this moment would be over. And for once Akane didn't have Aoi on his mind.
Only Teru was there.
Take my hand
Take my whole life too
For I can't help falling in love with youAkane pulled his head back as the song was ending getting ready to back away. But before he could his chin was pulled up by the blond who softly sang the last words to him.
"For I can't help falling in love with you"
Then, surprising Teru, Akane leaned in and softly pressed his lips against the other's. There wasn't any lust, just passion and full of love. As they pulled away and stared, still in each other's arms, they both thought the same thing.
"I couldn't help falling in love with you."
