And as he promised, the oval grew two lines. It was weird to know he was offline, so I just stayed looking at the piece of paper for a couple of minutes. I just stared at it like a complete idiot. Suddenly, a message appeared on it, while I was looking at the back. My beat flared to life as I turned it over.

Hey, power it off, it recharges when it’s left in the cold; room temperature cold. See ya

The oval once again grew two lines, as I frantically wrote, then sent a message.

Wait up, what do you mean when you say see ya?

I sent and waited, waited, and waited. No reply, so I just powered the paper off. It took me a couple moments to understand what had happened. I stared at the paper, amazed that a couple seconds ago it held an entire conversation between… him and me. Now it is completely blank, besides the little oval with an inner oval. I touched it, and it felt like completely normal paper. I turned it over; nothing.

Hey, I don’t even know his name!

I just chatted for gosh-knows how long, and didn’t even ask for his name! Agh! Skyler! How could I have forgotten something so crucial? Stupid, stupid, stupid! I need to remember that for next time.

Well then... I suppose I could ask later.

Now… I suppose I should move. It has been a long time, and I suppose I could stay the night here… but I could always send a message home, just so that no one calls the navy or anything like that. It has happened before; short story.

I was like… three and went to Draven’s place for the weekend, but on the note I left, I misspelled a couple words and my misunderstanding mother thought I had meant something that had to do with nuclear weapons and kidnapped! That mother of mine surely needs an update on her glasses. Imagine in how much trouble I was…

Like I have said before, I was a troubling mini kiddo.

Well, back to the point. I stood up, and dusted myself up. I put the paper carefully in an empty folder I found in a desk. I looked at my wrist clock, and immediately felt guilty. It’s already nine PM, and I didn’t even feel time pass by! Well I guess time is relative so… it makes sense.

I rearranged my glasses so I had the back on my eyes, and commanded a call to Mom. Not even two rings had passed before I heard a familiar voice.

“SKYLER ATHENA STARK POTTS DO YOU KNOW HOW WORRIED I’VE BEEN?” No, of course I don’t mom. I just called cause I knew you were in the couch watching old TV shows like The Big Bang Theory and eating sushi. Of course I didn’t know. “I’ve been looking for you everywhere! Where the hell are you? I’m sending troops to find you if you don’t tell me, and Draven will be sent to jail, and I’ll burn your room down, take away your Suits Room and personally break down every single one of your suits, then I’ll decapitate all of your toys including Toy with my freaking laser finger!” yelled my mother, and then she hiccupped. She was about to say something but I interrupted her.

“Mom, I’m alright. I’m sleeping over here, alone F.Y.I. And no, I’m not going to tell you where ‘cause you will come find me anyway. Mommy, I’m completely fine and… I’m a big girl.” I said, feeling small and childlike, though what I said was the opposite. I missed my mom, but I’ll never say that out loud.

“Aww, darling I know you’re growing up, *sniff* but I still want you by my side. Whether you want it or not, you’ve got no choice on the matter, baby. You’re my baby…” My mom said, as she also was trying not to cry. I’ve got tears threatening to fall too, but they’ll stay in place. They will…

“Mom, you’ve got me all teary… please don’t cry. I’m coming over first thing tomorrow, I promise. But I wanna have this night alone in peace and quiet, without any distractions.”
