saudade

promises all but sworn,
your laughter rings in my ears.
the shell of me sits next to the ghost of yours
as i start whispering to you my fears.

i'll admit i have my faults,
and i seldom feel cool.
although i bear to see myself,
i always feel blue.

have you peered into my heart
and analyzed my soul?
why must you be so harsh,
straightforward, mean and cold?

do you see me as that weak child
you met many moons ago?
or have i grown into that fierce warrior
in your tales of the bold?

every day that goes by,
i remember to never regret.
for even when my heart is grieving,
i live a life i won't forget.

my tongue is of the sharpest swords,
my words cut into daggers.
no one slays me more than i,
or witnesses me stagger.

lies are forgiven but not forgotten,
when will i reach nirvana?
truth is all but given,
i'm living in saudade.
