I wake up early and get ready quickly. I grab a piece of parchment to write my parents a letter.
I'm sorry it's been a bit since I last wrote you, things at school have been crazy. I'm loving my classes and I'm making friends. Last night Dumbledore announced the Yule Ball will be happening every year now. Could you please send me some of my dresses from home? I miss and love you both so much!
Kaylee
I fold up the letter and put it into my book bag. I hurry down to the common room, hoping to see Draco, but he isn't there. I make my way through the halls and up to the owlery to send off the letter. I watch as the owl flies off with my letter attached to it. I hurry back down the stairs and to the Great Hall to get some breakfast. I don't see Draco at the Slytherin table, but I look over and see Harry, Fred and George at the Gryffindor table. I make my way over to sit with them. "Good morning boys." I say, sitting down next to Harry with Fred and George across from me. "Morning." Fred and George say in unison. "Kaylee, I don't think you've met him yet. This is Neville Longbottom." Harry says, leaning back a little for me to see the guy sitting on the other side of him. "Oh Neville! It's nice to finally meet you. My parents went to school with yours." I say, smiling at him. "Oh they did?" He asks, a little shocked. "Yeah, my parents are Mary and Michael Scamander." I say, putting some food onto my plate. "Her great grandfather is wicked. He owned so many interesting creatures." George says, I look over at him and smile. "Thanks George." I say. It looks like he was going to say something else, but instead he just closes his mouth. I quickly eat my breakfast and listen to the guys talk about who they want to ask to the Yule Ball. "Well I'm asking Ginny." Harry tells the guys. "What about you two?" Harry asks, looking at Fred and George. "I think I'll ask Angelina again this year." Fred replies. "What about you George?" Fred asks, giving him a wink. "Umm it's- it's a secret." George says quietly. "No fun!" Harry teases. "I'll see you guys later." I say, standing up from the table. The boys all say their goodbyes as I walk off towards Potions. When I get there I see Draco sitting at the table, I sit in the seat next to his that Ron usually sits in. "Hey, you alright?" I ask, turning to Draco. "Yeah, why?" He asks, looking confused. "Just asking." I say shrugging my shoulders. "I didn't see you in the common room this morning." He says, raising an eyebrow at me. "I went to send a letter to my parents asking them to send me some of my dresses for the Yule Ball." I say, smiling at him. "You're actually going?" He asks in a sharp tone. "Of course I am. I'm actually really looking forward to it, date or not." I say, furrowing my eyebrows at him. What girl wouldn't want to go to a ball, all dressed up with a handsome guy at her side. Before Draco can respond I hear someone clearing their throat behind us, I turn and see Ron. "Do you mind if I have my seat Kaylee?" He asks, looking down at me. "Just sit in the other one Weasley, she obviously wants to sit here today." Draco spits. "Draco." I say sharply, glaring at him. "What?" He asks, annoyed. "Ron is my friend, don't be so mean." I say, annoyed at the way he's acting. I stand up and move to my original seat, leaving Ron between Draco and I. The class thankfully passes by quickly, when Snape tells us it's time to go Draco packs his things up and rushes out of the classroom. I go throughout my other classes like normal, not particularly looking forward to Care of Magical Creatures because of the way Draco has been acting today. I make my way down towards Hagrid's Hut where there's a crowd of students gathering. I let out a sigh of relief when I don't see Draco's platinum blonde hair amongst the crowd. Class starts and there's still no sign of him, so I go about taking care of our Murtlap by myself. Class is soon over and I'm making my way back to the castle and to my dorm. When I get to my dorm there is a note on my bed, I open it:
Meet me at the tree by the lake before dinner.
There's no name, but Draco is the only one who knows about that place. I almost don't want to go after the way he's been acting. I let Jewels out for a little while I sit on my bed and do some homework. Time passes by quickly, I hop off my bed, put Jewels away and go to meet Draco. As I walk closer I see little fire flies enchanted, lighting up the tree where I see Draco standing under. He turns around when he sees me coming and smiles. "What is this all about?" I ask, confused as to why he seems so happy now. "I'm sorry about the way I've been acting. I've been stressed about some things." He says, looking guilty. He holds out his arm with his palm facing up, I reach my arm out and hold onto his hand. He pulls me quickly to him, holding me close. The air from my lungs struggle to escape in his presence. "I forgive you." I say quietly, looking up at him. "You'd think I'd be good at this by now from past girls, but when it comes to you it's different." He starts to say. "Good at what?" I ask confused. "Shh, just listen." He says, pressing his finger to my lips. "I've never had someone I actually care about like the way I care about you. I thought I knew it all, but I was wrong. You bring out a different person in me, the person who I am deep down. The reason why I was acting like a jerk today is because I was scared that putting myself out there would get me hurt." He says, looking down into my eyes. "I would never hurt you Draco." I tell him, feeling sad he feels this way from past relationships. He presses his finger back to my lips again, making me giggle. "What I said to you the other day was true, you're the only person that matters to me now Kaylee. There's no one else I'd rather want by my side. Would you do me the honor of being my date to the Yule Ball?" He asks, still staring into my eyes. A big smile spreads across my face, making him smile too. "I would love to Draco." I say, throwing my arms around the back of his neck and pressing my lips against his. I feel his hands tighten around my waist holding me close. Our lips part and I look up at him. "You really do have me enchanted, you know that?" I say laughing. "Me? No no, you have me enchanted." He says laughing as well. He turns and put his arm around me, walking off towards the castle pulling me along with him. "Let's get some dinner." He says, as he continues to guide me. When we reach the castle, Draco moves his arm. "I need to go get something from my dorm. I'll meet you in there." He says, turning towards our house common room. I turn to head towards the Great Hall, a few moments later I hear someone running up behind me I turn around to see George. "Oh hey George. How are you?" I ask, stopping while he catches up. "I'm great. Hey come with me." He says, grabbing my hand and pulling me along. "Where are we going?" I ask, confused. "You'll see." He says, looking back as he leads me along. He takes me to the outside courtyard, when we step out he shoots something from his wand. It looks like a small firework that flies around quickly before shooting up into the sky and exploding. "That's how I feel when I think of you Kaylee." George says, turning to me. I'm speechless, frozen in place and before I can say anything he starts talking again. "Kaylee, would you be my date for the Yule Ball?" He asks, looking down at me.
