Chapter 4

I wake up after sleeping in late, not feeling like eating breakfast this morning. I get dressed, grab my book bag and head downstairs to the common room. I stop on the last few steps when I see none other than Draco Malfoy sitting on the couch. Besides the two of us, the common room is empty. He turns and sees me, immediately getting up and making his way to me. "Fuck off Draco." I spit as I hurry down the last few steps and walk quickly to the door to leave. "Kaylee stop would you?" Draco says hurrying after me. "Me? Stop? No Draco how about you stop. You stop being such an ass to me. I've been nothing but nice to you, giving you the benefit of the doubt but you're just making me look like a fool for ever thinking you could be different from what people say you are." I yell at him, he runs and pushes the door shut just as I barely open it a few inches. His arm right by my head, I let out a sigh and turn around quickly to face him, our bodies closer than I thought they would be. I inhale quickly from the surprise of how close he's standing. "I-I don't know how to act around you Kaylee." He says looking down, avoiding eye contact. "I'm always mean to people so I don't have to let them in, so I can stay hidden behind this front I put up. But you, when I look at you it's different. I can't explain it and I don't know what happening to me. I've never felt something like this before." He continues, looking up and keeping eye contact. He reaches across with his free hand, the other still pushing against the door and grabs my hand gently, rubbing his thumb over the back of my hand. "Kaylee I'm sorry. I promise I'll try to be better, you make me want to be better." He says, looking up from my hand, the look in his eyes makes my heart drop. He's never had anyone that cares about him, I could be so good to him. But how do I know he won't just do what happened before? I lift my head up to look at him, both his hands move to either side of my face and he pulls me in, kissing me. My body tenses up, in shock of what's happening but I don't feel the urge to pull away or push him off. His lips pressing hard against mine, feeling the warmth from his skin, energy rushing through my body. He pulls away and looks into my eyes, searching for an answer. "Draco-" I start to say. "I promise Kaylee." He says, moving his hand to tuck some hair behind my ear, feeling the heat rise in my cheeks. "Let's umm- let's get to class." I say still in shock of what just happened. We walk together in silence for a little. "Are you okay?" He asks looking over at me worried he messed things up with that kiss. "Yeah I am, just processing things that's all." I say giving him a reassuring smile. When we get to class Ron is already there, he turns and sees the both of us walking in. He gets up quickly and makes his way over to Draco. "Malfoy you leave her alone. I don't know what you did yesterday, but stay away from her." He says, putting an arm around my shoulders trying to move me away from Draco. "Ron-" I start to say. "Listen here Weasley, she can speak for herself." Draco says, they both turn to look at me. "Ron everything is okay now, we talked." I say, smiling over at Draco. "Suit yourself." He says as he turns and walks away. We don't talk much during class, I can tell he's annoyed that Draco and I are on better terms now. While I'm looking down at my book and answering the questions on the page, a white paper bird lands in front of me. I lift my head up and look around, I see Draco looking at me, he smirks at me when we make eye contact. I unfold the paper bird and read the note.

Meet me at the Astronomy Tower after dinner tonight

I give him a smile and nod and go back to doing my class work. Potions is soon over and I go about my day in my classes, looking forward to later feeling curious about why he wants to meet me there. When I arrive at Care of Magical Creatures I go over and stand by Draco, Hagrid gives me a concerned look, but I just give him a smile and nod. "Let me handle the Murtlap this time." I say to Draco, opening the cage. I put my hand flat at the entrance of the cage and the Murtlap climbs right on. I move my hand to gently hold it close and make it feel safe. "How are you so good with it?" Draco asks watching in shock. "Don't forget who my great grandfather is, it's in my blood." I say looking down at the Murtlap. Hagrid passes out the food for us to feed it, I move closer to Draco. "Here feed it, it's okay." I say looking at him, he hesitates looking a bit scared from last time. He reluctantly holds out the food, the Murtlap takes the food with no issues. Before I know it class is over. Everyone makes their way back up towards the castle and into the Great Hall for dinner. Before we get to the Great Hall Draco stops. "I'll see you later at the Astronomy Tower Kaylee." He says as he turns down a hallway. I give him a smile and keep walking. "You're meeting up with him later?" I hear Hermione's voice behind me. I turn around and slow down so she can walk next to me. "Yeah I am. He apologized for yesterday. He's trying to be better." I say, looking over at her as we keep walking. "Well good luck with that." She says as we enter the Great Hall and she turns to go sit at the Gryffindor table. I eat my dinner quickly, wanting to go back to my dorm to change out of my uniform. I look through my wardrobe, I pull out a pair of black leggings, and a grey and green sweater. I quickly change, look at myself in the mirror and then make my way to the Astronomy Tower.
