nick pulls me out into the mob of people by my wrist. it's suffocating but i'll manage. i've calmed down now and i'm ready for some action.

i follow him to the island of kitchen counters, where spilt drinks and empty cups are scattered all over. he almost loses his grip on me when we get tangled in a girl group chatting by the fridge. i swiftly apologize to whoever i just bumped into, brushing some invisible dirt off my clothing.

nick's eyes seem dead set on a lonely liquor bottle hiding by the sink, one of the only ones still left. i guess we're not drunk enough yet.

he lets go of me to refill his red solo cup, cold air hugging the area on my wrist where his hand was previously located. i ain't gonna lie, i already kinda miss the warming feeling.

i'm about to go up to him and refill too when a wave of giggles and gasps wash over me, almost as if they were pulling me out to sea. i know those sounds all too well.

with an unbothered turn of my head, a bored look plastered on my face, i lock eyes with the group. it only amplifies the effect. they throw not-so-subtle glances of want and attraction, whispering to each other and flipping their long, silky hair as they eye me up and down. i just bite my lip, ignoring their hints completely.

"you seem to be popular with the ladies," nick chuckles before taking a sip of his new drink.
"trust me, i am."

he hands me the bottle and i pour the rest of its contents into my own cup, gulping down quite a bit to prepare for this upcoming inevitable encounter. my back leans against the wall as i position myself comfortably. nick stands his ground by the counters right next to me.

the shortest girl in a form-fitting, vibrantly blue dress seems to be the one to take initiative, leading her friends over with her. she looks to be over a foot shorter than me, but then again, i'm fairly tall. despite lacking height she appears bossy and straightforward; the leader of the gang.

"hey," she greets, purposely stretching the y, "how are you guys tonight?"

her voice is high pitched and confident, burrowing the words right into my mind.

"all good i believe. what about you ladies?"

i intentionally make my tone sound flirtatious. who cares if i'm leading them on. i just wanna have some fun.

they shift around, all wanting to answer my question individually. nick stays silent, an amused smirk creeping onto his lips. a girl with dyed purple hair is the first to speak up, her irish accent thick and prominent.

"we're doing fucking amazing!"

she does a little twirl, laughing and showing off her puffy black dress and gracious figure. her deep blue eyes are accentuated by the heavy winged eyeliner and eyeshadow she's put on. she's got skin as pale as snow. paired with the red lipstick it creates a sharp and gothic look. she's pretty, and i totally would've made a move on her if i swung that way.

"lovely to hear," i smile.
"you two wanna come dance with us? i see you looking all bored and shit."
"i mean.." nick starts, searching my face for a response to that, "okay?"

i just shrug. the extra booze is kicking in anyway.

the short girl grabs my hand and excitedly leads me towards the dance floor. i can tell she's dead set on reeling me in tonight. it couldn't be any more clear. she won't even let her friends lay a finger on me as we walk together. i guess i'm hers and only hers from now on.

nick shyly sticks as close to me as possible, unsure of what to do. we're both surrounded by the half dozen of them like they're our bodyguards. if we'd actually hired them however, they would've been fired long ago, tripping and giggling like this.

the clacking of high heels blends in nicely with all the other little noises around the place. as we approach the blaring speakers, those clacks are drowned out and replaced with heavy bass instead. i recognize the song well.

we push our way into the sweaty, raving crowd, blending in almost immediately. i slip on something on the floor, accidentally falling into purple girl who doesn't seem to mind. all she gives me is a drunken, happy grin.

the girls wait for the beat to drop before going crazy, dancing like tomorrow won't exist. me and nick take the opportunity to throw each other the last sober, questioning glances like "whatthefuckhavewegottenourselvesinto?"
