(Yin)
The scab from the mosquito bite finally went away, after two weeks. I kept scratching at it because it kept hurting, but all that was left was a small, white scar on my arm. Yang had the same bite on the same place of her arm. Hers healed more quickly because she wasn't tempted to scratch at it.
Speaking of her, she has been acting... different... lately. Not because of girl stuff, but it's been because of something else, I just can't place my finger on it. It's like she's hiding everything from me now!
She seems studdery, and scared. Like if someone was out to get her. Maybe it's because Lucas was gone for that amount of time? Maybe it's just her homework.
We had a deal though, for crying out loud! We would never keep secrets to ourselves, no matter how embarrassing or personal it is. She can tell me things, I don't have anyone to tell them to anyways! We are also twins!
I decide to finally ask about what she has been hiding from me. I take off my headphones and I run up the stairs. Unfortunately, I missed the last step. I fell, as I tried to grab on to anything that would help me stay still. It felt like everything was in slow motion. I fell down four steps, and I hit my head at the bottom.
My vision was blurry, and I was dizzy. I get up slowly, and I see red on the floor. I touched my head, which was throbbing, and now there's red on my fingers. I was confused, and was drifting away into unconsciousness as I slowly laid back down onto the floor.
I was in immense pain, and I just wanted it to end. No one was going to help me, because no one could hear me. I just wanted to talk to my sister, and now I'm going to die from blood loss. A single tear rolled down the right side of my face, and I closed both of my eyes.
When I opened them, I was engulfed in white. I felt great all of a sudden. A steady wind was coming from my feet, which lifted my hair slightly. I was slowly falling, and I was gently able to land on the ground as everything slowly came back into view.
I didn't move for multiple minutes. My mouth was open slightly for a few moments. I looked at my hands, which were still bloody. I walked carefully over to the sink and washed it off.
I got two napkins, one was wet with soap, and one was dry. I walk over to the pool of red and I clean the blood up from the wood floor. I toss both of the napkins away, and make sure that no one can clearly see that it's bloody.
Then I went into the bathroom and saw that there was a lot of blood on my head still. No more blood was coming out, though. I was healed by something. There was no one else there, so it must have been... me?
Am I hallucinating? I poke my face while still looking at the mirror, and I felt it, and I saw it. Am I dead? Probably not. I needed to get the blood off of me before anyone notices.
I walked over to our room and slowly opened the door, making sure that the top of my head wasn't visible. "Hey, Yang."
"What?" She asks, looking up from her book.
"I'm gonna take a shower early."
"Why?" She asks, "It's only four-thirty in the afternoon."
"Because I got juice on my head." I reply. That's the best lie I could come up with quickly.
"And how did that happen?" She says skeptically.
"I was trying to balance a cup of it on my head, but it fell off and splattered all over the top of my head and all over the floor. Someone online dared me to do it." I said, I know that she thinks I'm crazy when I do all of these challenges.
"Is the floor stained? Can I see your hair?"
"No, and no." I conclude and run to the bathroom. Before I got to the bathroom, Garrett woke up.
"What's on your head?"
"It's juice and I need to get it out." I said, get around him, and close the bathroom door. I sigh in relief and take my shower. I guess he didn't hear me.
After making absolutely sure that there was no more blood on my hair and that there was no more coming out, I changed back into my clothes and left the bathroom.
I didn't think that I would ever become a being that had powers. Healing doesn't seem like a power that I would have. A more fitting power would be the power of death. Since I'm kind of emo, I'm not gonna lie.
I was in the living room a few hours later. I was enjoying watching videos until I heard glass breaking in the kitchen. "What was that?" I asked.
"Uh, nothing." She lied.
"What actually was it?" I replied and got up. I walked over to the kitchen and I saw a broken plate on the floor. "What were you doing?" I exclaimed.
"I was walking past it, and I bumped into it, and then it fell onto the floor." She explains.
"We don't leave random plates on the counter. And we don't leave cupboards randomly open." I say as I look around the kitchen more. Random cupboards were open.
"Fine, you got me. I was looking for something to eat, and then I was looking for a microwave-safe plate and a cup."
"But David and Garrett will be here any minute."
"I know. I just wanted a snack, though."
"And you wanted a plate for a heated snack?" I investigated.
"Yes." She quickly replied.
"Fine. Just pick up the plate." I didn't really care about what she was eating or what had happened. I just didn't want to get in trouble.
A few days pass, and nothing eventful happens. So I guess that I just got this power and I'm just going to live with it? That's fine. I guess it will be nice to heal me or my sister if one of us breaks our legs or something.
While walking to school, I decided to ask Yang about what she was hiding.
"Yang, can I ask you something?" I say.
"Yeah, sure." She replies.
"Why have you become so awkward recently?" I question her.
"What do you mean?" She lies.
"Don't play dumb. You've been stuttering a lot, making up lies recently, and doing weird things. Why?"
She turned her head, "I've been thinking a lot recently. About if-" She stops when two bikers cross us, and stop once they see us.
"Hey, Yin!" The girl exclaims.
"Uh, hi!" I reply.
"I heard that you competitively swim. I do too!" She says, and I recognized her. She's the girl who's boyfriend is the most popular kid on the football team.
"Oh, yeah. That's... cool. Where do you swim at?" I ask.
"Come on Kira, we're gonna be late." Earl bossed and they resumed biking to school.
Yang and I were silently walking for a few moments after that. "Doesn't it feel nice to be more outgoing?" She barges.
"No. I could barely put words into two sentences." I mutter.
"Oh, you'll get used to it one day."
"What were you going to say before they interrupted us?" I ask.
"Oh, it's just about that series that you don't watch. I don't feel like I should go into detail. Plus schoolwork." She explains.
"I also have something to say-." I mumbled before I was cut off by her.
"Sometimes, it's just better to keep a secret, you know?"
"Yeah, yeah." I hesitated. That was a strange thing to say.
Sometimes it is better to keep a secret though. Maybe I shouldn't tell her about my powers. She could use me to get her famous. I don't want to be famous, but she certainly does. If David or Garrett found out, they would show me off. I don't want to be known as someone who just heals. That sounds super boring. Being a cashier at least would give you interesting stories to tell.
I decided that I wouldn't tell her about my power. It was too much of a risk.
Lucas was at school today, surprisingly. I thought he left to attend a better school in the middle of Minneapolis. Maybe like a private school that costs thousands of dollars a year to go to. Or maybe do the right thing and get homeschooled. I don't mean that as a bad thing, but so many people wanting to hang out with him would definitely be affecting his life in a negative way, and his entitled, rich mother would not want that for her child, at all.
