Haddonfield, Illinois - Halloween:
It was morning, 17 year old Laurie Strode leaves her home with her books in her arms and walks to school. Shortly after, her father leaves the house and is on his way to work.
Mr. Strode: Don't forget to drop that key off at the Myers place.
Laurie: I won't.
Mr. Strode: They're coming to look at the house at 10:30. Be sure to leave it under the mat.
Laurie: Promise.
She walks away and crosses the street. As she keeps walking, she hears a little boy's voice.
???: Laurie!
She turns to see Tommy Doyle, the boy she babysits, running toward her.
Laurie: Hi Tommy.
Tommy: Coming over tonight?
Laurie: Same time, same place.
Tommy: Is Nick coming with you tonight?
Tommy thinks Nick is cool because whenever he helps Laurie babysit Tommy, he has fun with him and plays games with him.
Laurie: (Smiles) I'll have to ask, but I'm sure he'll say yes.
Tommy: Nice. Can we make Jack-o-lanterns?
Laurie: Sure.
Tommy: Can we watch monster movies?
Laurie: Sure.
Tommy: Will you read to me? Can we make popcorn?
Laurie: (Smiles) Sure, sure, sure.
She ruffles his hair making him laugh.
Laurie: You better hurry up.
Tommy: How come you're walking to school this way?
Laurie: My dad asked me to.
Tommy: Why?
Laurie: I have to drop off a key.
Tommy: Why?
Laurie: Because he's gonna sell a house.
Tommy: Why?
Laurie: (Smiles) Because that's his job.
Tommy: Where?
Laurie: The Myers house.
Tommy: The Myers house?
They walk toward the Myers house and it looks like it's been abandoned ever since Judith Myers' murder 15 years ago. Tommy stops her before she could go any further.
Tommy: You're not supposed to go up there.
Laurie: (Shows the keys to the house) Yes I am.
She walks up to the front door.
Tommy: Uh uh, that's the spook house.
Laurie: Just watch.
She kneels down and puts the key under the door mat and as she walks away from the door, Michael watches her.
Tommy: Lonnie Lan said to never go up there. Lonnie said that's a haunted house. He said awful things happened there once.
Laurie: Lonnie Lan probably won't even get out of the 6th grade. (Puts her arm around his shoulders)
Tommy: I gotta go, see you tonight.
Laurie: Bye.
Tommy: Bye.
He walks away on his way to school as Laurie continues her way to school, singing to herself. She doesn't notice Michael leave the house and watches her.
Smith's Grove Sanitarium:
Dr. Wynn and Dr. Loomis leave the building and discuss Michael's breakout.
Wynn: I'm not responsible, Sam.
Loomis: (Sarcastic) Oh, no.
Wynn: I told them how dangerous he was.
Loomis: (Sarcastic) You couldn't have two road blocks and an all points bulletin wouldn't stop a 5-year old.
Wynn: Well he was your patient doctor. If precautions weren't strong enough, you should have told somebody.
Loomis: I told everybody! Nobody listened!
Wynn: There's nothing else I could do.
Loomis: You could get back in there, get back on that telephone, tell them exactly who walked out of here last night, and tell them exactly where he's going.
Wynn: Probably going.
Loomis: I'm wasting my time.
Wynn: Sam, Haddonfield is a 150 miles away from here. Now-now for God's sake, he can't drive a car.
Loomis: He was doing very well last night! (Opens the door and throws his coat in) Maybe someone around here gave him lessons.
He gets in the car and starts it up before driving away from the sanitarium.
Haddonfield High School:
As the teacher was talking, everyone was righting down notes. Laurie sat next to her boyfriend, Nick Brackett, who was also writing down notes. Laurie looks outside and she sees a car and Michael standing on the other side of the car watching her while wearing a pale Captain Kirk mask. She goes back to her work and she feels nervous when she looks out the window and sees him still looking at her from the other side of the car.
Nick taps on her desk to get her attention. She looks at him and he gestures to the teacher, who was calling her name.
Laurie: Ma'am?
Teacher: Answer the question.
Laurie: Oh, um, costing rope of fate that's somehow only related to religion. Where Samuel felt that- well, fate was like a natural element, like Earth, fire, and water.
Teacher: That's right.
As the teacher talks more, Laurie looks out the window and sees Michael isn't there anymore and she thinks she may have been seeing things.
Nick: You okay?
Laurie: Yeah, I thought I saw something.
Haddonfield Middle School:
Children were in their costumes running as the final bell rings. In the back, 3 kids were picking on Tommy, who was holding a pumpkin. They kept teasing him, saying that the Boogeyman is gonna get him.
Bully 1: The Boogeyman is coming!
Tommy: Leave me alone!
Bully 2: He doesn't believe.
Bully 1: Don't you know what happens on Halloween?
Tommy: We get candy.
The bullies laugh at him and they close in on him chanting, Boogeyman. As he tries to leave, one of them trips him and he falls down on his pumpkin, crushing it.
Bully 2 runs one way while the others run the other. All of a sudden, he gets caught by Michael, who realizes that he isn't Tommy and lets him go. The boy gets scared by him and runs away in the other direction. Michael turns and sees Tommy getting off the ground and walks away sad from his crushed jack-o-lantern, not knowing he was being watched.
Michael gets in the car he stole from Nurse Chambers and follows Tommy until he drives away.
