"It all started when I created my Invention, The Thneed. I went off on my own. I was still a young boy. Maybe 18? Anyways, I had finally arrived in this beautiful field of colorful, whispy trees. I had never seen anything like it. I had set up my tent and started to chop down a tree. I was able to get on down, until a little fuzzball came up to me, claiming he was the "Guardian of the trees." His name was the Lorax." Once explained to Ted.
Ted nodded, a little confused, but he caught on.
"And then, I met the most amazing human being. Their name was (y/n)."
Ted's eyes shot open. Once looked at him, confused.
"Remember the girl I told you about?" Ted asked Once.
"Yeah. Can I get back to the story now?" Once grumbled.
"Wait... She had a grandparent named that!" Ted said excited.
"Wait... Really?" Once whispered.
"Yes! It may not be them, but there is a good chance it is!" Ted answered.
"Anyways, they were kicked out of their house, so they lived with me. We ended up falling in love. I gave them a sapphire necklace to match my ring." Once exclaimed, showing off his ring.
Ted smiled a bit.
"Then, I made a horrible choice. I let my family intrude. They had arrived one bright day. They hated (y/n). Then, greed took over, and I ignored (y/n). I regret it so much. They had my entire heart, and I messed everything up. One fateful day, (y/n) came into my office, and we had an argument. I made bad choices with my words, and they left. I deserved it. That was the last time I ever saw (y/n). I still hate myself for treating them that way. They were my life, and when they left, it felt like a piece of my heart was ripped out..." Once said softly, sadness lacing his voice.
"We will find (y/n). I promise." Ted said.
"Kid, its not that easy-"
"I dont really care." Ted interrupted.
Once tossed him a seed.
"This... This is the last truffula seed, ted. Plant this in the middle of town, where everyone can see. Make a change, Ted. For me, for whatever her name is, for (y/n). Please Ted."
"I will! Thank you!" Ted yelled while running.
Once smiled while starting to remove the boards from the windows, and making his way to the door.
Ted drove his scooter back to Thneedville with the seed in his pocket, along with a pack of gum, and a candy wrapper. He drove as fast as he could to Audrey's, knocked on the door, and gave her the instructions.
Ted finally got back home, and ran upstairs to hide the seed.
"Ted, get down here!" His mom yelled.
Ted groaned, but listened.
When he reached the bottom of the stairs, he was greeted with the small face of O'hare.
"Ok, Teddy, hand it over." Ohare said.
"I-i'm sorry, but I don't know what you're talking about." Ted replied.
"Fine, then I guess you wont mind us checking your room..."
"No! You cant go up there!" Ted fought. They unfortunately reached his room, and trashed it, looking for the thing that could make Ohare loose his job forever.
The truffula seed.
They all ended up fighting and chasing eachother all over the town, trying to steal the seed for eachother.
Ted came out on top. He showed all of thneedville the real world. He had finally convinced them, that their surroundings were all plastic, and metal, and not good.
They planted the seed.
A few hours later, everyone was gathered in the park, celebrating the small truffula tree growing amongst them.
Ted felt a slight tap on his shoulder. He turned around to see someone he had never expected.
The Onceler.
"Ted... You did it!" Once said, excited.
"Yeah... I guess i did!" Ted replied, smiling.
"Could you ask, I think her name was Audrey, about (y/n)?" Once asked quietly.
"Sure. Audrey, come here!" Ted yelled.
Soon enough, Audrey appeared.
"Hmm? Oh, hi! I'm Audrey! You're The Onceler, right?" Audrey asked.
"Huh? Oh, yeah, I am. Nice to meet you." He replied.
"My grandparent talked all about you!"
Once stood there, dumbfounded.
"Were you two really together?"
Once nodded, starting to feel emotional. After all these years, he was finally going to see his true love.
"Are they possibly around by any chance?" Once asked.
Audrey looked at Ted concerned.
Once shot a confused look at her.
"I am so sorry, but they actually passed away a few months ago." Audrey said.
Once's expression dropped, and he fell to the floor. He started to cry a little. He never cried. He has always felt numb ever since (y/n) left.
"I can take you their grave if you like..." Audrey whispered.
Once nodded a little, and followed Audrey to the cemetery, not too far away.
"I'll leave you alone for the time being."
Once walked over to (y/n)'s grave.
"Hey (y/n). Long time no see. Im sorry that I couldn't be there in the times you needed. Im sorry that I acted like I hated you. I loved and still love you so much, words cannot explain. I wish you could've made it the 3 months, so I could finally see your beautiful face again. You were my absolute world. I love you to the moon and back." Once said, now crying.
He had never felt this type of sadness. Loosing a loved one is not easy, especially if you haven't seen them in years.
After awhile, he said his last goodbyes, and finally got up and walked off into the night, back to his, now known, grandaughters house.
