After school, Iris was sitting on a bench with Spike resting his snout on her lap when Barry approached. Hey. He greeted. Iris greeted back as she looked up at him. Good practice. Coach Lane didn't seem too tough today. Barry said as he took a seat next to her. That's because she's not really that tough. She's actually a great coach. Iris stroked Spike's head. Seems like you're gonna miss her. Barry said. Oh definitely. Iris gave a slight chuckle. But you know, she thinks we won't be ready for the CCNCC, and we could use some extra help. But the thing is the other girls don't wanna practice after school. Some of them say they have key club, and some of them say that they have to study, and some of them say they're busy. Iris explained.
But you're not. Barry looked at her. No... And that's why I was thinking that I could use the extra help. Maybe outside school, like at a park. Iris suggested. I just don't want to make my dad wait for me after school, seeing how he's my ride home. Iris explained. I'd like to, but there's a whole coach/athlete protocol thing that I kinda need to follow. Barry pointed out. Iris blushed. Yeah. I didn't mean it like that. I mean I- No of course not. Barry interjected. I'll tell you what, give me your number and I'll text you a few cheerleading videos that I used to use on my old students that may work. Barry handed his phone to Iris. A few minutes later Iris handed back his phone. Iris. He read her name on his phone. Okay, I'll see you soon. Iris got up from where she was sitting. Barry looked at the direction Iris was looking and saw Principal West approach them. Okay. He said before leaving.
The next day after school Barry and Iris met at the park as planned. Oh, where's Spike? Barry asked when he saw Iris approach him alone. At home with my dad. Iris replied. I had to lie and tell my dad that I was meeting a friend. Iris said. How did you get here anyway? Barry asked with a confused look. I walked. I don't live far from this park, so I always bring Spike here. Iris explained. So, you ready to start? Barry smiled.
Two hours had passed since they've started practicing, and Barry was standing behind Iris. He was positioning her arms and trying to fix her body so that she could stand straight. There. That's how you're supposed to stand when you cheer. His voice was husky. How do you know this? Iris asked. I told you, I used to be an assistant coach to another cheer team. Barry said as his hand brushed against Iris's arm, Which team? queried Iris. Uh, the Keystone Knights. Barry bent over and positioned her legs. Can I ask you something? Barry got up from bending. Iris nodded. Why do you cheer? Barry asked as he looked at her cheer uniform. Well, I've been doing it since freshman year of high school. And its been my favorite activity. Iris said as Barry came closer. Uh huh. Barry gazed at her intently. You still want those extra practice sessions? He asked moving closer. I thought you said it would be inappropriate. Iris breathed. Only if somebody finds out. Barry pressed his lips to hers.
