It was Monday morning and Joe and Iris were having breakfast. So... What's your impression on Barry? Joe queried. What do you mean? Iris had a puzzled look. Well, he seems like he's doing good work, and do you think I made the right decision? Joe took a bite of his toast. Yeah. Iris smiled. Uh dad, how did you find Barry? Iris asked. Uh, I just put on a few emails and someone referred him to me. Joe sipped his coffee. What was he doing before this? Iris asked. He was a coach at Keystone high. Why? Joe said. No reason. Iris shook her head. We should probably go or we're going to be late. Joe got up from the kitchen table and quickly went to wash the dishes as Iris hooked Spike's leash to his collar.
Before cheer practice started that morning, Barry pulled Iris to the side. Why aren't you responding to any of my messages? Barry mumbled. I haven't gotten through them yet. Iris breathed. I don't like being ignored. Scowled Barry. I'm not ignoring you. Iris tried walking away from him but he blocked her path. You're avoiding me. Barry said. Do I really need to explain why? You yourself told me they don't tolerate inappropriate behavior by coaches. Iris crossed her arms. What's inappropriate? Barry asked. All of this. Iris sighed. If you're referring to the park, you're the one who asked for extra practice, so who is being inappropriate? Barry muttered. No one's gonna care what I did. Its your reputation if this gets out. So why are you still pushing this? fretted Iris.
If you think no one's going to care what you did, you're wrong. This is the kinda thing that follows you around. Every time you walk down the hall, sit in class or go out, people are going to be watching you and they're going to be whispering. Barry insinuated. Are you threatening me? Iris gasped. No, I'm trying to protect you. Barry smiled as he put his hand on her shoulder. Okay, I don't want to see you this way anymore. So stop calling me, stop texting me... just leave me alone. Iris began to feel scared. I can't! Barry snapped. I like you. He started to calm down a bit. I like you too... But I made a mistake. And so did you. I'm sorry, but you're my coach. Iris stammered. She managed to get past him and join the other girls.
