Day 1(2): Twenty Questions.
AN UNCOMFORTABLE SILENCE SETTLED BETWEEN THE BOTH OF US. Thomas used his fingers to beat the railing as he hummed to a song that I couldn't quite make out. It sounded a lot like. . . yup, still couldn't make it out.
I was still trying to get my head around the fact that I'd just made a deal with someone whom I'd just met. And he'd agreed to it so easily, too. I was expecting something a lot more worse than that. He seemed like the type to bargain for something. I honestly thought he wouldn't be interested in helping me the slightest bit.
But yet, here he was.
I guess my image of the Male species was tainted after my whole encounter with Ashton. Thomas seemed nothing like him. I didn't think Thomas was a people pleaser. Just like me. Unlike Ashton, who would obviously do anything to get people to like him. In my opinion, that was plain dumb.
But right now, he was the last thing I needed to worry about. I had actual problems on my hands right now. A lot more worse than getting Ashton back for being the kind of person to treat females the way he treated me: pretended like he actually cared. Once this cruise was over, and I'd managed to get my parents back together, I'd walk straight up to his house, slap him across the cheek with raw steak, and sashay my way out.
Oh and I wasn't bluffing.
I cleared my throat.
"So. . . Brownies? What's so special about them?" I asked, in an attempt to start a conversation between the two of us. It was weird, because I usually didn't like talking to people. So, I guess it was the least I could do in return for him agreeing to help me like that. It was rare to find people like him these days. But again, I didn't really know him. I shouldn't be too quick to judge people.
I learnt that the hard way.
Thomas grinned, standing up right, as he prepared to tell me his tale. I found myself already intrigued. The way his eyes brightened told me he found the story extremely amusing. I wondered if all the Martin's were like this. He was obviously a lot like Kimberly-Taylor, rather.
"My mom's making us all go on this diet. I haven't had some real food in days. It's starting to kill me. Surprised she didn't learn her lesson from last time."
I almost snorted. I wouldn't be surprised if he always had stories to tell. He and his siblings looked like the mischievous type. "Last time?"
"Yeah. She did the same thing. Within two hours, we had Brad delivering us baked food through our windows. Mom eventually caught up after two weeks." He chuckled. There was this glint in his eyes as he smiled, recalling the memory. I wondered what it was like to be in his family.
"Stop thinking so loud." He groaned. "It's disturbing my peace and quiet." My eyes widened. I wouldn't be surprised if he came out as a psychic. He would make some good cash - which I needed to pay back my mother for her necklace.
"If you're really going to go ahead with this deal with me, then you're going to have to get used to my loud thinking." I scoffed, rolling my eyes. He laughed at my words.
Soon, we were quiet again. But this time, it was a comfortable silence. I felt the need to smile, but I held it back. This boy was making me smile a lot more than I usually would.
"Speaking of this deal," he started. Darn it. I knew there was a catch. "When did you format this whole plan in your head?" I pursed my lips together. When he saw I didn't respond, he sighed. "You don't have a plan, do you?"
