I walked into the cafeteria as the bell rang for lunch. So far I had Chemistry, Calculas and History out of which only Chemistry was with Zach. I still have sports and physics with him and then I have literature. No one tried talking to me. I took my tray of packed food and found an empty table. I checked my phone waiting for Zach. Soon he emerged into the hall with 3-4 people around him. They talked and laughed and I felt bad. I sunk more in my seat. Now I know what he felt like when he was alone all these years.
"Why don't you just break it off with that jerk and we'll let you hang with us!" Matt stood behind me.
"Why should I when you are being a jerk here." I said with anger dripping from me. "You're the one with problems with him, have you ever tried solving with him? Do you think even know what happened? Have you tried listening to his side?" I asked.
"I don't need to. He's a jerk and he was from the beginning. Using me to get popular. He got what he deserved." He spoke in disgust and I felt like punching him.
I stood up in anger ready to fight. "Do you even have a mind of your own or is it your dick thinking!" I heard some 'oooh's in the background but I didn't care. "You're a bully and you have no idea what the other is going through. You make everything about yourself even when you know it isn't a big deal."
"Ohhh what do we have here? Ms. Goody-two-shoes cursing? What a sight!" That was Ashely.
"Oh right, no one ever stood upto your bullshit that's why?"
"Guys guys calm down. Josie we don't want a fight. Just leave that aas-hat to us and you're back in the group!" That was Luke walking in the conversation.
"Why what would you do? Get high on drugs and bully me? Welcome to the world where someone stands up against you."
"Being a bitch now are we?" Luke stood up straight to my face staring right in my eyes. Oh he's gonna get a punch now.
"Leave her alone!" I heard Zach shout from behind. He grabbed my arm and pulled me back to my seat. I gave him a stink eye. I saw Luke take a step towards me but Matt stopped him and said something to them as they walked back to their table.
"You okay?" Zach asked as I slumped my head on the table.
"I don't know." I said in a mumbled voice.
"Hey look up." And I did. "We had this talk right? You did the right thing. Stand upto what's right, remember?" I nodded. "Do you mind if Spencer joins us?" He asked and I shrugged.
"Hey Josie!" I saw Spencer remove his mask and sit across from me. He actually looked good. He had blond hair and green eyes. He was a bit taller than Zach but was well built which reminded me that he played basketball in the school team.
"Hey." I replied back and dug in my sandwich.
"Oh man, if looks could kill, Zach would be dead now!" I heard Spencer laugh. I looked at him and he stared somewhere behind me. I turned to see Matt staring at us with anger. The moment his eyes met mine, his vision softened and then he focused back on the food he had.
"Josie, don't look there. They're just trying to get your attention."
"Especially Matt. There's a rumor, Matt is head over heels for you. The only reason he hasn't made a move on you because you're too good for him and he can't meet your standards." He whispered to us.
"Ha ha! There's no way that bully is gonna get an acceptance from me." I was too angry to even listen to that thing.
"Josie, it'll be better if you don't get into them. Luke is very protective of Matt and Matt is already angry on both of us. Luke is very dangerous because he's always high."
