---Chapter One---

He turned the map around looking at the landscape that surrounded him. His brow furrowed in thought, and a light sweat started to appear on his forehead. Angrily he rotated the map another ninety degrees clockwise, he began to trace his fingers around the high contour lines. He looked out over the scenery but his mind ignored its beauty for a second, as it tries to fit the pieces together. His hands began to quake with rage which the girl standing watching was beginning to find funny. She raised an eyebrow as his anger took over. Throwing the map to the ground, he stormed off in some other direction.

“Can’t you read a simple map?” The girl asked him smugly as he took out his anger kicking the nearby tree. “I know that paper comes from trees and all,” she said amused, “but that is no reason to hate it.” He glared at her intently, his blue eyes as piercing blue caught the girls attention and she was left mesmerised with the power they contained. There was little humour within them. He bent down, his hand roughly grasping the crumpled map, taking no care as it ripped in his hands.

He forcibly shoved it at her, and giving a fake smile he replied; “If it is such a simple map I would like to see you find where we are.” She was left standing there as her mind caught up with what just happened. He then chuckled a little and went to sit on a tree stump, happy in his mind that she will try and fail. The girl took one look at the map and threw it back at him. This caught him off guard and he fell off the stump and was squirming around in the dirt like a turtle on its back.

This is a map for another area!” She yelled at him. Some birds flew out of the tress above her. He got up dusting the dirt off of himself, most of it he exaggerated deliberately. She noticed that he had a few twigs and leaves in his hair. He became aware that she was staring at him and ruffled a hand through his hair. He walked straight at her and she squealed a little and hid behind the map. He roughly snatched it away from her with an evil grin.

He threw the map carelessly to the ground, pulling her into an embrace that she couldn’t escape. “Help! Help!... Rape!” She screamed out to the empty forest, her pleas fell upon deaf ears. His grin turned more sinister, though in his mind he could not help but chuckle at her words. He held her tight but, she still squirmed under his touch. She began to open her mouth, but he silenced her with his hand.

No one can hear us out here. It’s just the forest and us” He whispers softly in her ear. Her eyes widened, and to him it looked like she was about to burst into tears. He realised he was going too far, and he immediately let her go. She stood there shocked as she watched him fall to the ground in fits of laugher. She sniffled a little as she grabbed her sleeve to gently wipe her watering eyes. Her heart was beating like a fast paced drum. Anger built up inside of her until breaking point.

That wasn’t funny, Daniel!” She started, but when she looked towards him she saw that he was still hysterically laughing at her. He kicked him in the leg which stopped his laughter. In her mind she was happy and walked away from the standing on the edge of the cliff. She sighed softly, her arms wrapping around her torso as she looked over the landscape that was laid out in front of her. Where she stood there was no trees, there were some wild flowers of some sort but not much else.

He came up and stood next to her deciding that he would waste some precious minutes of his life looking at the view. He looked across at Cassidy, who was oblivious of his gaze. His mind became jealous of the inspired look in her eyes, she was truly mesmerised by the beauty of it all. When he looked out over the land he felt nothing, just that the place wasn’t tainted by human destruction. She moved back to the edge of the forest, and he followed.

That stunt you pulled did not amuse me.” She said without looking at him, she could feel his presence. His small chuckle of a reply earned her attention. She turned to face him, “There is no way that I am sharing a tent with you after all that.” Daniel shrugged his shoulders and walked away from her a little. But he barely took three steps until her hand was on his shoulder turning him to face her.

What do you expect me to do, we only have one tent? You can sleep outside if you wish.” He said that knowingly. Cassidy paused in thought, diverting her gaze elsewhere. “Or we could sleep in the tent” He said suggestively, and she felt a weight drop in her stomach. He watched as it took her a few seconds to gather herself together. She straightened her back so that she gained an inch in height, though she was no match to him. She folder her arms across her chest and put all of her weight onto her right leg.

Fine, so be it, I’ll sleep here in the clearing.” Was that all she could say? He thought silently to himself. He watched as she walked away from him again back to the edge of the cliff as she watched the sun slowly set across the hilly horizon. He set about, and began to start pitching the tent. In all honesty he knew that he would have needed Cassidy’s help with pitching the tent. He scoffed to himself, he could manage without her. He was determined to see what point she would break and give in to his superiority.
