---Chapter Two---

She sat outside next to a dying fire. She cursed the night, as she gave the glowing embers a quick hopeless poke. They simply disintegrated into ashes. She sighed deeply and looked at the tent. Was she really going to cave in over a little bit of cold weather. No, she thought quickly to herself, lying down in her sleeping bag. The hard floor provided little comfort and she was soon gazing up at the stars.

She didn’t like the idea of being under the trees. The forest was darker that the small clearing that was on the edge of the cliff. She didn’t allow herself to look over the edge of it, because she knew that her mind would not forgive her. The stars above her twinkled as their bright orbs, the moon casting its glow across the valley. Everything was touched by the silver, turning the beautiful lush land of day into an alternative world of quiet nightlife.

Her eyes ached, begging her for closure. She defied them, gazing up at the stars and working out the constellations. Though she was fighting a losing battle, and she was soon drifting off to her own alternative world within her complex mind. The forest was silent; however there was the occasional hooting of the owl, that made chills run down her spine. Her mind dismissed all the little sounds; it was content for her to sleep. She was in danger simply with Daniel’s presence, the forest was nothing to her.

Something connected to the side of her cheek, patting it repeatedly. She waved it off with her hand, rolling over to the other side. The same annoying patting continued and she groaned diving inside her sleeping bag. She ignored the outside world, she was in a cocoon. The annoying thing had stopped and she dared not open her eyes, it would simply be confirmation that it was indeed day.

Time for you to wake, sleeping beauty. Your prince is awaiting you with a special surprise.” He called out to her, awaiting her response. She ignored him. After all he was out of sight, and therefore out of mind. Wrong answer he thought in his mind, a grin beginning to etch its way onto his face. He threw the contents of the bucket over the cocoon that was lying still in the middle of the clearing.

It took her a few seconds to realise what had happened and she was squirming inside of the sleeping bag. Great, she realized, why did someone have to make it so cosy, so that he can ruin it? He bit hard onto his lip to stop the hysterical laughter from spilling out of him. It was a failing attempt and he had to cover his mouth with his hand when she finally emerged. She had looks to kill and her hair stuck to her face. Along with her wide eyes and her bewildering expression, she could have been easily mistaken for mad.

She stood up with the quickness of lightning. She scoffed at her as he saw that her clothes clung to her revealing her average figure. He smirked as he saw her blush a strawberry red, so she has become aware of what she looks like, he smirked. She crossed her arms across her chest and shifted her weight to be on her right leg. She stared at him intensively and her gaze landed onto the large black bucket.

She stormed towards him, her anger increasing fourfold. He dropped the bucket and ran to hide behind the tall trees. He saw it safe to let his guard down as his laughter took over him, leaving him breathless. She picked up the bucket then screamed. “That’s the toilet. You used the toilet to wake me up!” She yelled out at him. The birds stirred in the trees, however didn’t leave their perch. To them this must be entertainment, besides who else is watching them?

In my defence I didn’t know it was the toilet.” He said, the trees muffling his voice a little. She trailed round the tree grabbing his clothes and pulling him back out into the clearing. “I didn’t use it, I swear!” He said defiantly as she was quaking with anger. “Dude it was a joke-“He started out but he never finished his sentence.

His eyes were wide with shock and his hand instinctively went to his cheek. She left him sniggering walking to her stuff. She sighed as she picked up her sleeping bag to see that the dirt stuck to it turning the red to a brown. She didn’t need to bring it close to her nose to see if it smelled, the terrible aroma had engulfed her for a while now. He was still standing there staring at a distant spot in space. She hit me, his mind calculated.

Come on I’m sorry. Let’s be friends.” She smiled wickedly as she pulled him into a hug. He had no time to repel her, and soon he was in her embrace. She wiped some of the dirt off of her face and wiped it off onto him. Laughing wickedly. He laughed along with her, she was a funny girl. He shook his head disapprovingly as she slung her stuff carelessly into her overly large rucksack.

He did the same, packing the tent away within a matter of minutes. They carried on in silence towards the river. He smiled to himself, she actually lasted outside in the woods. He respected her for that, truly. He was awake all night, listening to the sounds of the forest. His heightened fears made him wish that she would come and join him in the tent. Though he was afraid to step out from the protection of the tent to ask her.

She was murmuring softly in her sleep. Something about cookies and a dinosaur. The smile grew wider on his face, earning him a worryingly look from Cassidy. He laughed at her, with her confused look increasing the blood flow to her cheeks. They could both hear the trickling of water. The river was close by. They looked at each other at that moment and there was no communication between them. It simply wasn’t needed in that moment. Their minds both alike in thought.

Race to the river.
