Noelle always thought that being with the kids during their schooling would make everything so much easier. She thought they would go to her whenever they had a minor inconvenience and she would be there to give them advice in whatever endeavor of theirs.
She was very wrong.
She realized so on Halloween.
Now anyone who knew her knew that that day was a day of mourning. Every student had learnt that while their favorite teacher was smart, witty and charmingly beautiful, she would become but a distracted shell of herself every Halloween. Because that was the day she lost yet another loved one, that was the day she lost another best friend and that was the day she lost her sister Lily Potter.
Students saw Noelle Moon walking down the halls and they couldn't help but stare because she was their very own princess gliding through the halls and blessing them with kind smiles and crinkled eyes. She wore the prettiest outfits for every day classes and on special holidays the most beautiful gowns anyone could ever dream of, again, out of a muggle fairytale.
But on Halloween and every January 30th she would become the saddest person anyone had ever seen. But that was because they hadn't seen James Potter on either of these dates.
It was this reason why on October 31st 1993 she had left the castle early in the morning, wearing one of her prettiest black dresses. She would mourn over herself but she would do so looking her best because otherwise Lily would've thrown a fit.
So Noelle Moon wasn't there when Harry James Potter came bounding down the corridors in order to enjoy his day out at Hogsmeade along his two best friends. The boy was stopped abruptly by none other than his Head of House, Professor McGonagall. His green eyes furrowed in confusion as he stared up at her, asking her what could possibly be wrong.
"I'll have to stop you right there Mr. Potter."
"What? Why?"
"You've yet to turn in your form for Hogsmeade, I'm afraid you won't be able to join Mr. Weasley and Miss Granger this time around." she peered at him from over her glasses as his best friends stared on in bewilderment.
"What? I did turn it in! My dad sent it to you! He told me so himself."
"I'm sorry to tell you I did not receive any form from your father, Mr. Potter."
"Surely there's a misunderstanding." spoke Hermione as she stepped next to Harry, Ron nodding behind them.
"There's no misunderstanding Miss Granger, I haven't received anything from Mr. Potter and believe me, if he'd sent something I would know." there was a twinkle in her eyes as she spoke about James Potter, one harry didn't bother to notice seeing as he was slowly growing irritated by the situation.
"Well Professor Moon can sign it, she is his godmother." the girls brunette locks bounced around her shoulders as she looked at Harry for confirmation even if she knew well that she was correct in her statement.
"You would be correct Miss granger, except for the fact that Noelle left this morning." she said nothing else, daring any of them to say anything else. When neither said anything she nodded once at them, turned and left.
Harry stared at her as she left, his fury growing with each passing second, but he wasn't about guilt trip his friends into staying. "Just go, I'll be fine, I've homework to catch up on anyways." And he turned, not waiting for them to say anything else.
The young boy's irritation and anger was so much so that he completely forgot what anniversary the Wizarding World celebrated on Halloween whilst other mourned it. He'd forgone the fact that his father had been raising him with a raging depression that never left and that threatened to drown him as he was reminded of Lily with each passing day.
