[???'s POV]
Doing this is going to be hard, especially since we won't be able to interact with the patient... UGH! Why'd WE have to do this? I start walking down the stairs down into the cafeteria. I anxiously look over towards the other kids. D2 gives me a smile. Poor kid, he shouldn't even be here. I finally get to Mr. Davidson's office. Opening the door, I walk into the tackily decorated room. Mr. Davidson sits at his desk, awaiting my arrival. He gives me a small smile.
"So, H11, as you know it's your turn for the changes." He says, his loud voice making me flinch a little. "We'll start with your name. As you know, H11 and you have the same name and number. I know you kids were randomly picked for this, so this might not have happened to you before. Do you have any suggestions for the name we'll refer to you as here?" He asks me. I've never thought of that. What name? ...
"Could I be called H12, sir? After all, my birthday was on the day I died, sir. I guess it was just forgotten about." I ask.
"Hmm... Yes, of course H12. I'll report that to my supervisor. He'll do something about it. Anyways, now for the serious questions. You already know who we're going after, so it won't be hard. Remember the rule, H12. 'The patient, regardless of what happens, CAN NOT see you.' Rule 08, heard of it?"
"Yes sir, I haven't broken that." I tell him, even though that's a clear lie.
"You'll be going with D3 on this. Poor boy." He mutters the last part under his breath, just loud enough for me to hear. It was tragic, D3. Didn't deserve to die this young. But there's nothing we can do now.
"I've taken it that S16 already worked on this 'project'. It appeared in the folder I'm holding right now, just as I was checking." He says. "Good work so far. Now, here's your part of the job, you have to make sure he isn't aware of us. Got it?"
"Yes sir, I'll keep him away at all costs." I say, not even knowing how I'll do it. This job seems impossible.
"How're the clones?" He asks.
I hesitate. Huh? "W-what clones sir?"
"Wow. The clones? Remember? P13 and W13? They went as the friends of the patient. You gave them their papers of instructions. You didn't even read the instructions." He says with annoyance in his voice.
"I'm sorry sir, I was distracted! Nobody's perfect!" I plead. I already had a mark on my reviews from the last time I took a job, I didn't want to be seen as a bad worker.
"Well, it's excused. Just make sure he's aware of what's happening and he doesn't come here. That's your only jobs. It's simple, don't fail." He says this time with more empathy in his voice.
"Yes sir. Won't fail you." I say, turning around and walking out the room. I sit at the cafeteria table next to D3. Such a small child. His cute blonde hair. He turns to me and grabs my hand.
"How'd it go, H11?" He asks. SO PRECIOUS-
"It went well. I got a new name, and I finally got my partner I'll be working with." I tell him.
"Wow, what's your new name?"
"It's H12" I tell him.
"So, they got your birthday mixed up? Oh, no! What about your partner? Is it me? I hope!" He says, smiling.
"Actually, it is! We're going to be looking over the patient!" I say, actually enthusiastic. I've met D3 before on another job, and we have a nice past. He died on cancer at a young age, he told me. It's considered rude to ask an angel how they died, but we knew each other.
"Why does everyone call him 'the patient'? Why not use his name?" D3 asks me, genuinly curious about it.
"Well, we aren't called by our names. It's just our letter and number." I tell him. He seems satisfied with that answer, so he goes off to talk to another worker.
I sit up and walk back upstairs. This has been a long day, and I'm excited about tomorrow. I'll just go to sleep for now.
(Sorry for not being on and sorry for the sucky chapter, its supposed to explain a few things in the story so dont come at me)
