Immediately I stepped into the party, I knew it was a bad idea. People stared and when I say stare I mean stare. Jay held my hand tightly as he led me away from them and further into the party. Walking up to the bar, he asked me what I wanted.
"Martini" I replied and he nodded, ordering it for the both of us. He handed mine to me and I took a sip, ignoring more stares from people. A few of them I could recognize while the rest I just had no idea who they were.
"C'mon, lets seat among my friends" Jay urged.
Bad idea!
"Um, no. I'll just stay here"
He frowned "Why?"
Was he blind?!
"I don't know, I just like this place better"
He stared at me for a while more, before pressing a kiss to my forehead "Okay, don't leave here alright?"
I nodded and watched as he walked up to his friends. They hi-fived and he sat between them.
I sat there for a while, quietly sipping on my drink and watching.
"Hey sweetie" a voice screeched as a dark skinned girl plopped herself on the seat opposite mine. She had several ear piercings and a septum piercing. I didn't recognize her.
"Um, hi?" I replied
She snorted and gave me a once over "Cathrina?"
"Caitlyn" I scowled. Who was she?
"Mhm" she emptied the cup she was holding into her throat and winced "You're a clown, you know that?"
"Excuse me?"
She laughed loudly "You've been gone for say how long now? A year? and you come back here thinking you can just have your boyfriend back? Just like that?" her smile dropped into a sneer "Fucking get over yourself, bitch!"
I was too stunned to respond and so she continued "Didnt you think that Jay would move on? You thought he was gonna wait for ya? See why you're a clown?" she laughed loudly then muttered "Fucking dumb white girl"
My head was hot as I looked over at were Jay was seated. A girl was next to him, her arm on his shoulder as she spoke flirtatiously.
Slowly, she inched closer and pressed her lips to Jay's , he didn't pull away. After her entire stunt, she stood and strutted away. Moments later, Jay stood and followed her.
The dark skinned girl smiled wickedly at me "Well then, I guess that compliments what I just told you"
Leaning in, she pressed a kiss to my cheek and I immediately wiped my cheek in disgust. She winked and walked away. Not thinking straight, I stood from my seat and stormed out of the party, hot tears falling down my face. I couldn't get back home because my only ride home was Jay and there he was. Fumbling with my fanny pack, I pulled out my phone and dialled Daniel's number, it rang for a long time before he eventually picked up.
"Hey, can you come pick me up?" I tried to keep my voice even but failed miserably.
He was silent.
"Daniel's not here. What's wrong?" Bradley replied instead and I groaned internally.
"I just- I need a ride home" I closed my eyes, in an attempt to keep my tears at bay.
"Okay where are you?"
I told him my location and hung up. About ten minutes later, Daniel's car pulled up and I walked to it, pulled open the door and sat in. Bradley was in the driver's seat.
Without saying a word, he drove off.
"Where's Daniel?" I asked
"Bathroom" he replied and I nodded
He kept his gaze on me for a while more, his grey eyes looking worried. When I looked at him, he looked away.
"What happened?" he finally asked
"Boyfriend issue" was my short reply and he nodded.
The rest of the ride was in silence.
