Before and After

She was not okay I knew that she wasn't when I first saw her but after spending a few hours with her I was 100% sure. She was hiding it but not that well enough that if you looked close enough you could tell. She wasn't like she used to be, she was full of life she laughed more, I haven't seen her really smile since I got here.We used to smile all the time people used to tease us about it and we would just laugh it off.

She only smiled once and that was with my sister, not me but with my sister and I was expecting more of a warm welcome, not the cold shoulder and eye rolls. But I'll deal with it if it meant that we'll eventually be close again.

I had to figure out one thing though, what had happened to her and why does the whole school know. From what I conjured up she has no friends during lunch I went to go get my sister from school because she had claimed she was sick but she seems to be having a blast now.But before I left I glanced in the lunchroom and she was sitting alone.I wished I didn't have to go get her so I could sit next to her.

Whatever happened I had to gain her trust enough so she could tell me and I would no matter the cost.Maybe whatever happened wouldn't have happened if I didn't move and I shouldn't feel guilty but I do.She was my best friend,I've been in love with her since I knew what love was and I will be damned if I let her go again for the second time.

We've been at Walmart for almost an hour and it was 5:00 p.m we get out of school at 3:30  and now we were at the register and Yana and Amina were talking about how Rainbow Dash from My Little Pony was superior and Amina disagreed and said it was obviously Variety.

"Alright are you guys done we're almost done and I have a major headache,I know all the ponies' names by now."I said sliding the cart up a little bit so the bagger has more room to put the groceries in there.

Yana just laughed and went back to talking about the fucking ponies,the cashier finished scanning the food and the total was one hundred ninety dollars and  Amina paid and we started pushing the cart towards the car. Yana got in the car first and Amina buckled her in first and then came to help me put the bags in the car.

I was in deep thought I kept on thinking about what my mom said to me in Spanish earlier "Are you going to ask her out this time." Of course, my mom knew I was in love with her except for her she was totally oblivious." 

"Why did you tell your mom we were going to your house to watch a movie when I didn't agree with that at all."She asked me while shoveling the groceries in the car.I snapped out of deep thought'"Wait I thought that I had asked you oops."I piled the rest of the groceries in the car and she gave me a glare.

Twenty minutes later and we pull up to her house and we got the groceries and put them in the fridge in silence and then we went back in the car to drive to my house.We got out of the car and I looked in the back seat and Yana was wiped out her thumb was in her mouth and everything.

"I'll carry her inside."She bent down to unbuckle her and slowly grabbed her and her arms wrapped around her neck.I waited at the bottom of the steps so I would be the last one in.When we walked in the house smelled so good,on the stove there was something cooking and my stomach rumbled.Then I remembered the movie and I quickly ushered Amina up the stairs after putting Yana on the couch despite her and my mom's protest to eat first.

I opened the room door for her and watched as she took it all in,all over my walls were sticky notes.She looked at me wearily probably asking herself if she wanted to ask or not so I answered for her."Sometimes I forget things a lot so I just put sticky notes on the walls so it just became a habit and eventually I just started putting my hopes and dreams on there I don't know it's kinda weird ."I said while getting my remote so I could turn on the tv to set the movie up.

"I think that it's smart, not weird at all."she sits down on my bed and pulls up the covers."I just look up at her."Do you not want me to it's kinda cold in here."She trys to get up but I gently push her back down."No it's fine I just thought I would have to tell you to get comfortable."I say laying on the opposite end of the bed and turning on Shrek.

"This used to be our favorite movie do you remember?"I say turning my head a little too look at her."Yeah, I also remember you saying I look like donkey every time I pissed you off."She says with a laugh that turns into a smile.She's actually smiling a real smile I could tell because it actually reached her eyes.I made her smile I did no one else well no one else except for my sister.

I started the movie and halfway through I could feel the bed shaking a little and I turned my head and Amina was sitting up and just shaking and when I tried to tap her shoulder to make sure she was alright she stood up and ran literally ran out of the room.

I tried to call her name to stop her but when I reached the bottom of the stairs she was gone and my mom looked at me and all I could do was shrug and stare at the door in shock.
