Chapter ten

All of class 1-A sat in the large locker room together, waiting for the festival to start. Katsuki was sitting there, with his game face on.

"Good luck Katsuki," you said with a smile as you ruffled his hair. He rolled his eyes.

"I'll let that slid this time."

You chuckled and ran your fingers through his hair. "Loosen up. You'll do great." You said before patting his back and walking over to Izuku.

"___ are you nervous?" Izuku asked.

You shrugged. "Kind of. I'm not really nervous about the competition, but," you paused for a moment. "People all over the country will be watching me; watching all of us. I think that's what scares me."

"Yeah. That part is scary," Izuku muttered with a small sigh.

Your conversation was cut short by Todoroki. "Modoriya," He said. "I think it's obvious that I'm stronger than you, but you have All Might in your corner. I just want to make it clear that I'll beat you." He said. You raised an eyebrow.

"Hey, man what's with the hostility? We're all friends here." Kirishima said.

"Well, this isn't a team effort, so I get where he's coming from," You said with a shrug.

"Alright, team! The festival is about to begin! Please start making your way out." Iida said.

"Here is the hero course students of class 1-A!" Present Mic exclaimed from the announcer booth. You looked around and your hands shook slightly. 'If my parents are out there somewhere, they could be watching.' You thought. You took a deep breath to calm your nerves. Surprisingly, Todoroki gently nudged your arm.

"You alright?" He mumbled, not looking in your direction.

You nodded. "Just a bit nervous. Thanks for asking, Todoroki. You good?" You whispered back.

"Same," He simply said. After a moment of silence, he spoke again. "Nice to know you remember my name. Call me Shoto."

You nodded and looked down at your still shaking hands, completely ignoring Midnight's words. Shoto gently squeezed your hand, in comfort, and let go.

"Thanks." You mumbled before looking ahead. Katsuki was walking to the stage.

"I just wanna say, I'm gonna win." He said.

You burst out laughing as every other student yelled at him and booed.

"Not my fault the rest of you are just stepping stones to my victory." He said before walking off of the stage, bumping Izuku on his way to his spot. Before he could walk away, you grabbed his hand. "I needed that laugh." You said before chuckling and letting him go.

"Nice to know I'm a great source of entertainment."

"The best."

Bakugo chuckled before walking back to his spot.

"Now the first contest is... the obstacle course!" Midnight yelled. "As long as you don't leave the court, you're free to do whatever your heart desires!" She exclaimed as all students walked over to the exit. Once the buzzer started, everyone ran through the entrance, Using your air quirk, You ran up the walls, but Shoto froze the entire entranceway. You scoffed and fire burst from your bare feet, melting the ice and propelling your forward.
