Chapter III|3rd Note

Vegetable Salad

Unfortunately, that never happened again for days. I actually missed talking to her, she seems to be the type na marami kang matututunan galing sa mga sinasabi niya, and I like her more for that.

It was our P.E. day and we happened to stay at the side of the field without doing anything, just wasting our time there since there was no place for us to try soccer. The center part of the field, which we were about to use, was almost crowded.

I am sitting at the upper part of the bench, trying to get some more air since there were a lot of people and the heat of the sun didn't help at all, when someone approached me. It was Shine.

"Hello. Pinabibigay nga pala sa'kin ng mommy mo. She told me you haven't eaten your breakfast so she decided to just pack it up for you." She said handling me the paper bag she was holding.

"Ah, salamat. Sorry naabala ka pa, sabi ko sa kan'ya hindi na kailangan." I tried to calm myself down with a laugh which turned out to be an awkward one.

She then smiled at me, "Uhh, no. Ayos lang naman. It didn't bother me at all. Nagkataon lang na na-late ako kaya naabutan ko siya sa labas. I wonder how your mother knew me, though."

I looked at her, hesitant to answer her question. Anong sasabihin ko?

Shine, s'yempre kailangan niyang makilala 'yung future daughter-in-law niya.

Or,

Kinukwento kasi kita sa kan'ya palagi kaya kilala ka na niya. Ikaw pa nga laman ng gallery ko eh, not to creep you out but my friends sent those so I saved all of them.

That sounds so weird so I laughed it off. And, "Siguro nakita ka niya sa meeting ng parents noon, hindi ko rin alam dahil hindi naman namin napag-usapan."

"Oh." She replied. Was that too harsh? Was I too harsh? Mukhang nasaktan siya but she still gave a smile before getting up and bid her goodbye.

But before she can walk away, I held her hand that made her look at me.

"Uhm...uhhhh..." She raised her eyebrow but a playful smile was on her lips. "Sabay tayo mamayang lunch? I'm sure Mom packed a lot."

"Sure." Then she went down.

Isa lang ang tumatakbo sa isip ko ngayon: ang bagal ng oras.

I almost jumped the moment our teacher dismissed us for lunch. Lumapit agad ako kay Shine para yayain na siya. Nakarinig ako ng hiyawan pero hindi ko na pinansin.

"Lunch."

She stopped fixing her things to look at me, "Ah oo nga pala, sige sandali." then continued again until she's done. "'Yan okay na. Let's go? Hindi mo ba kasabay mga kaibigan mo?"

I shrugged, "Nauna na sila, ikaw?"

"Nauna na rin." She laughed and we started walking.

Pagpasok palang sa cafeteria ay narinig ko na ang boses ng mga kabigan ko. They were with Shine's friends.

"Nandito na pala kayo." bati niya sa kanila.

"Kayo ah, ano 'yan? May pasabay pang maglunch, yi." Gail teased, earning a glare from Shine.

"Hayaan mo nalang si Mia, Gail. 'Wag mo nang guluhin ang lovelife niya." Panggagatong pa ni Sharmaine.

I checked the paperbag to see what's inside.

"Uh-oh," Gail commented the moment she saw the vegetable salad.

I looked at Shine and asked, "Kumakain ka ba nito?"

"Yup, that's my favorite."

"Okay, sa'yo na 'to." I said as I give her the food.

"Seryoso ka? Thank you!" I just smiled as a sign that she's welcome.

Nagsimula na kaming kumain and I noticed how excited Shine looks. She's still a baby...

I can't help but admire her more as I stare at her. She looks so happy eating that one. She definitely loves it.

The way she smiles after taking a spoonful of salad, the way she's closing her eyes everytime it enters her mouth... she's just so adorable.

She loves vegetable salad and she enjoys it very much.
