I walked through the dirt and twigs, through a small part of a forest and arrived at the trailer park. "Rigby's Trailers." An old sign said outside. The paint had obviously warn off, it had chips and breaks. I saw Kennedy's trailer just a bit ahead of me. I had my blue hoody on and some camouflage shorts, the embarrassment of having a shaved head clustered my mind. I walked up to her trailer and knocked quietly, "Hold on dear!" I heard an older lady say. I'm guessing it was Kenny's mother. She opened the door wide, with big lovely motherly like smile on her face. "Hey there young one I'm guessin' your Kenny's little friend. Am I right young man?" She had sort of a twangy southern accent. It was really friendly, "Yes Ma'am." I nodded my head, "Call me Beverly baby boy. Come on' in." She demanded kindly, Beverley seemed like a very nice lady. "Kenny your friend...?" "Joseph." I quietly inserted. "This sweet young boyfriend of yours is here, get your butt on out here!" Kenny came running from the back room of the small green trailer, it shook a bit. Kenny was wearing a dirty white shirt, with red liner lining the sleeves. An old baseball cap, and those dirty blue boy shorts. "Mama. He's not my boyfriend 'Kay!" Beverly laughed with that nurturing smile. "Go on and play kids!"
Kenny and I went walking out down to lake, "why don't you take off your hood huh?" Kenny asked, I became very unsettled to answer the question. "I don't wanna say, okay?" Kenny playfully tried to pull off my hood. "Stop!"
She stopped immediately, "Geez! I just wanted to see!" Kenny ran down to the giant maple tree, right along side the lake. She sat on the swing tied on to the tree and pouted, "Kenny, I'm sorry okay." I ran down by her and sat on the swing next to it, I pulled off my hood. "Look." She rubbed my gone hair "I like it, but. I liked your long hair better." I sighed deeply, "well I don't like it." She looked at me as we were swinging at a unsteady timing. The sun was starting to go down, you could see it over the tall green trees. "Hey, I wanna show you something!" She jumped right off the swing and started running towards the tall dry grass the opposite direction of the lake. "Where are we going?" I exclaimed. "Somewhere come on!" I jumped off the swing and fell but caught myself with my hands. I ran trying to catch up with her, how was she so fast? I asked myself. I'm already out of breath, "Wait up!" I was panting."Look at this!" We arrived in the middle of the tall grass, there was a apple tree. Just right there, "wow! How did it get here?" She shook her head, even she didn't know. Apples never grew here, I had never seen one before. Kenny claimed up the tree with her old sneakers scratching against the bark of the tree. "Hey, come up here!"
I had never climbed a tree before, I guess I wasn't a 'real boy.' I attempted to climb up I about slipped down and fell. Kennedy grabbed my had an pulled me up, "Want one?"
"One of what?" I asked. "An apple dummy!" Kenny stood up holding on to the branch, a picked off two cheery red apples. The sound of them just picking off so easily was so soothing, that was my new favorite noise. Kenny tossed me an apple, I had just barely caught it. I took a bite, my teeth sunk into the juiciness of the apple the taste was so angel like. "There good huh?" Kenny said with her mouthful. Today was a good day, "I never knew fruit could taste so sweet.."
