Somehow, Rue managed to weasel her way out of a walk back to the dorms with Beck. She made her way down the now dark roads to Cole’s room.  There was no way he could still be with Regan.

She knocked on his door. No answer. She tried again. Still, no answer.  She dialled his number, straight to voicemail. But it wasn’t like Cole to go missing without any way to contact him. He must be with Regan. It was the only reasonable explanation.  Rue didn’t like the idea of finding them together much so she gave up her short lived search for him to walk back to her room. It caught her by surprise to find Beck lying on her bed, talking across the room to Lavender. She was furious Lavender had let him in. ‘You haven’t heard from Cole, have you?’ She may as well put Beck to use if he was going to be where ever she was.

‘Nope, not since he left the cave with Regan.’

‘Strange.’ Rue shrugged. If he was with Regan he could hardly be kidnapped or murdered or something. No, it was probably just Rue being paranoid.

Rue decided to completely ignore the fact that Beck was in her room. She had no need to go out again, she still had some pot noodles in her bag to eat. She grabbed her Minnie Mouse pyjamas and walked down the corridor to the showers. It had been a long day so she was glad when she didn’t have to wait for the shower. She let the warm water run down her muscles. The fiasco in the cave had tired them out. She sighed in relief when she felt them loosen under the soft massage of the powerful water. If she wasn’t worried an annoyed person would come knocking at the door again, she could have stayed under the shower for hours. Instead she quickly lathered her body with bubbles and rinsed them off.

Dressed in her short Minnie Mouse pyjamas she walked over to Lavender’s bed, lying full length on her front. She peered over Lavender to look at her screen, pretending she was interested in the game she was playing. As a matter of fact, all she could concentrate on was the feeling that Beck’s eyes had not left her, since she had walked into the room in her provocative pyjamas.

‘Here are the last ones.’ Cole stumbled into the central chamber of the cave carrying two unconscious young male bodies over his shoulders.

‘Great, they should wake up soon. Put them with the rest.’ Regan stood staring at the message on the wall.

Here you will find power. Here your people will serve you.

Here is where the ascent begins.

It had been a long time since she had seen one of these messages. No one else seemed to be able to see them. In the corner of each message she had seen so far, had been a symbol, it looked like the top half woman and a serpent like bottom half.

A grumbling noise came from the corner of the chamber. The people Cole had collected for where were starting to wake up. She wouldn’t have long before they started to freak out and try to escape. They started to wake up one by one. Since they were still groggy from their unconsciousness, it didn’t take much to make them stay where they were.
