Chapter 2

I was still trying to make out who could be waiting for me when I walked into the office. There was a man in his late forties there. He was sitting on the steel bench, busy with his cell phone.

I wasn’t sure of where but I knew I had seen him from somewhere. As soon as he saw me, he lifted his head and gave a slight uncertain smile as if he wasn’t sure if I was the one he was waiting for or not.

After greeting him, I just stood there staring at him, till he nodded and asked me to take the plastic chair beside him.

“You are the son of Mr. Jacob Nnadi, right?” The man asked as I was wiping the chair with a piece of paper.

“Yes sir” I replied as soon as I sat down.

“Diara… you look very different from the last time we met,” He said, this time with a complete smile on his face. I couldn’t recall ever meeting him before, which made me a bit surprised as to how he knew my name or even dad’s. “I’m Mr. Martin, do you remember me? Your father’s lawyer”

I was just beginning to remember him. He was dad’s personal lawyer and also his best friend. He visited every Sunday, when I was ten. He and dad would sit in the living room, drinking, discussing and laughing loudly. But then there was a day he and dad had a feud and he stopped visiting. Since then, I never saw him again till this day.
