Once upon a time a young teenage girl laid in her bed texting her new friend. Next to her was her friend Chandra who was asking her questions about that friend.
"So how is he," asked Chandra.
"He's fine," she responded.
"Oh, and how are things going between you too," she said forming a heart between her hands.
"Hey, it's not like that," she said giggling, "were just friends."
"Is that so miss tomato." Scarlet retreated to a blanket.
"Nooo," she started before being interrupted by a quiet ding.
"Is it him?"
"Maybe." She read the message. "He says he has something he wants to give to me."
"Aww how sweet," Chandra said mockingly, "and how does he plan to get it to you?"
"Ill ask." She typed then waited for a response. "He says he can just deliver it to me or I can come get it in person."
"I'm not so sure if that's a good idea," she pointed out, "I mean you just met him and you've never actually seen him."
"So, he's so nice to me and he's my age. What can he do? He probably lives like a billion miles away."
"Did you think about what if he's lying. I think you should stop talking to him."
Chandra's mom called from the hallway, "Scarlet it's time to go," she grabbed her stuff and hugged her goodbye.
"Be safe," Chandra told her.
"Do you need a ride home?"
"No not tonight. I have to head to my grandmothers today and she's not too far from here." She grabbed her crimson coat and put it on.
"Are you sure? I'll let your mom know you've left and your grandma that you're coming."
"Ok." She said her thank yous and goodbyes and walked out the door. Nearly immediately she pulled out her phone and started texting.
Scarlet: I will be with my grandmother for a while so I can't get your gift
Him <3: k I can mail it to you instead
Scarlet: What do you need then
Him <3: just send me your address and I can figure out the rest from there
Scarlet: 6623 aconitum lane
Him <3: ok u should get it soon
"Thx" she had started to type before her phone died. She looked around her and saw unfamiliar surroundings. She could not tell where Chandra's house was so she kept on walking.
The cold January air bit her nose as the full moon looked down at her. As she walked she thought about what Chandra had said.
"I probably shouldn't have told him my grandmother's address," she thought to herself with a mental facepalm, "it should be fine though. He probably lives far away and it's not like he would do anything."
After a while of wandering she finally found herself in front of a familiar door.
It swung open easily as she walked into the quiet, dark house.
"Grandma?" she called out. Hearing nothing she briefly wondered if anyone was home. She decided her Grandmother might just be sleeping so she went to check her room. Bam! The door slammed behind her. She turned around to see an unfamiliar man.
"W-who are you?" she asked. She heard the door click and he started walking towards her.
"Don't worry I've come to see you. Your grandmother... went out to look for you." She backed up but he just walked past her dimming the fresh moonlight in the room. While he continued to do that at every window, she started to sneak towards her room.
"Where do you think you're going?" He said turning around and coming at her. Her eyes darted to every corner needing to escape but he stalked her every move like a wild predator hunting for food. She felt the rough, peeling edges of the wall against her finger tips. Frozen she looked up to see him in front of her face. With covered arms blocking an easy escape, she could feel his breath on her neck. "I'm here to give you a gift," he whispered, "and it would be rude not to give me something in return." Heart pounding she tried to push him away and run. Callused hands grabbed her wrists pinning her to the wall. His body against hers she felt like there was little left for her to do but she wasn't ready to give up yet.
Chandra's POV
Chandra sat at her desk waiting for others to arrive. In her mind the news of what happened was still processing. It must have happened after she left. Two dead, murderer still at large. Other horrible details and thoughts of what her friend had gone through crossed her troubled mind. If only she had warned her better, more clearly. Had gone with her or something. Maybe then none of this would have happened. That man, that evil, twisted man. She hoped they would catch him soon, she hoped they would lock up that wolf for eternity.
While she was held captive by her thoughts, students filled up the empty desks and her teacher began their class, "Today, unfortunately, I will have to start the class with some depressing news," hushed whispers spread through the room.
One group of kids snickered, "Oh I bet it's that weird girl," one started. "Yeah, she had it coming for her," said another. "Ha, yeah. That little dead riding hood," they tried to hold in their laughter. Chandra just stared at them, absorbing the twisted joke. Then she burst out laughing. Now it was the entire class's turn to stare at her. Even with the many eyes watching her she never noticed or cared. Tears running down her face, she excused herself from the classroom. For the next while she sat on the bathroom floor consumed by her grief.
