Let me tell you something. Cancer. Sucks. Ass. A lot. I was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer when I was 15. I am now 17 years old, and trying to survive. Only for my parents and healthy sister twin sister's sake. We tried chemo for my lung tumors twice. It didn't do much. It shrank and grew more and more, than shranked and stayed shrunk.
Dad got a new job in Squaw Valley, Tahoe, California a month ago. We packed our things, shipped our furniture, and boxed all of our things in a U-Haul truck, from Clare, Michigan. We're currently in Mom's minivan. I'm sitting next to my annoying sister Valerie. I played with my cannula for the 80'th time. I have this cylindrical green tank, with this steel cart to wheel it behind me. The cannula is a transparent tube that split's just below my neck, wrapped around my ears and meets at my nostrils to give me oxygen.
"Oh for god's sake Kristen smiles! Stop looking depressed." I wanted to smack the shit out of her. Instead, I push up my round glasses.
"This isn't something I look forward to." I muttered. Mom turned around from the passenger side to look at me.
"Oh think of this as a new beginning. Start fresh." I rolled my eyes and looked out the window. "I don't want to." I said.
We all know it's not because of Dad's new job. It's because of me. Apparently they have a good hospital for people like me here. I did my research. Dad is a fashion designer, Mom helps sell Dad's designs. We're rich but not that rich. Valerie is into theater. (That's what makes her so dramatic) And I'm into my cancer. That's what keeps me up and going. Valerie and I don't don't really look alike if you ask me. they said we're identical but I just...can't see it. I have hazel eyes, Valerie has green. Pretty weird right? To look even more different I got 2 nose rings on the same side. I got them pierced on my 16th birthday, and since I had to cut my hair for chemo, it's been growing to my mid back. I dyed the ends blond, the rest are brown. I wear glasses, Valerie doesn't. She has brown hair and in our last school she was popular...like really popular. I still go to school just so I can have a normal life.
Dad parked in front of the new house. It's a mini mansion. Valerie gasped as she took it all in. I sighed...again. "Alright McRae family say Hi to your new house!" Dad said. Valerie and Mom took it latterly and said 'Hi' to the house. WTH.
The house is big. It has a little fountain with an angel inside the fountain. The double doors are wooden, the houses are made out of rocks and not bricks thank ya Jesus. On the side of the house you can see the living room, which you can see that it has a flat screen TV, a huge white sofa, a sofa chair and empty bookshelves. I think I'm going to like the living room area. We all got out, Dad had to help me take out the stupid tank. I shivered a little from the cold. It was snowing so...there's that. It was at least 4 inches of snow. I put on my beanie so my ears won't fall off. I felt Valerie's arm wrap around my neck.
"You like it? Because I do." She says 'Of course you do. You love everything' is what I wanted to say but didn't. "It's alright." I mumbled.
"Well let's go inside." Mom said. Dad stayed behind as Mom, Valerie, and I headed inside since the U-Haul truck trailed behind. There's a huge chandelier hanging down, a grand staircase and wait for it... and an elevator. Mom saw me staring at it.
"Dad had it built in for you." She explains.
"Great." I said. It's a glass elevator so you can see it go up and down.
"Come on I want to show you guys the kitchen." Mom said excitedly.
I followed them, wheeling the cart behind me. Valerie gasp. I had to sit down to catch my breath on the kitchen stool by the kitchen island. Everything is so white, and bright. It's an open kitchen, the island is made out of marble, there's a rack that holds the pan's and pot's. With a huge oven and stove. Glass cabinets for bowls, cups, and such. Mom showed us the living room, the family room, and the dining room. Then we went upstairs. Let's just say it's like a maze.
Valerie's room looks okay. Her walls are colored in pink. Her favorite color. She has a balcony, a huge bathroom, and a walk in closet. Her dream room coming true.
I went to my room. I gasp. All 3 walls are grey, the 4th one is a huge window. I can see the whole backyard, with all the tree's covered in snow and mountains. I have a bathroom that's connected to the room. Theirs a big tub and a glass shower box. I went to the closet that's in the bathroom, I too have a walk in closet. Mom came in.
"Do you like it?" She asked. I turned to her and nodded. She gave me a big hug. I surprisingly hugged her back.
"You'll like it here. It just takes time." She said in my ear before letting me go. "I should go help your father." She said. I watched her go.
Time... there's no much thing of time in my universal place.
