[Unedited]"Where is she?" I whisper to myself, as I look at my surroundings. I then look down to my phone to look at the time and to see if I had any text messages. Seeing none, I unlock my phone to pull up my contacts, calling the red head I've been waiting for. The phone rang until I got her voice mail: "Hey, It's April! Sorry I missed your call, you know what to do after the beep." "April? It's Y/N... Are you okay? Where are you? I've been waiting for fifteen minutes... If you're not here in another fifteen minutes I'm heading home. Call me back..." After I ended the voicemail, I let out a deep sigh, and waited 25 minutes... Still hearing nothing from my friend, I decided to head home.
You and April O'Neil have been best friend since you were little. You always did everything together, told each other your secrets, and always hung out together. But about a month ago, all that changed. She made some "new friends" and, for some reason, always hung out with them now. The only time you see her now, is at school. And even that isn't a lot, you had a few different classes, so you didn't see each other 24/7. You've tried to confront her many times, but she is somehow able to avoid your questioning. And after a month of being ignored, ditched, and rain checked, you've decided to really sit her down and have a talk with her.
*Time Skip, Next Day at School*
After grabbing my lunch box from my locker I made my way over to the cafeteria. I quickly scanned the room, searching for that familiar mop of red hair. Once I spotted her, I sped walked in her direction and was disappointed to see that Casey was already sitting with her. I slowed my pace as I walked up to their table, and when I arrived, April winced at the sight of me and looked to her side in shame. "Afternoon, Casey." I started, "If you don't mind, I would like a few words with my best friend." "Nah, go ahead." He nonchalantly stated. "Alone." I gritted out. "Oh! Yeah, my bad." He awkwardly chuckled before getting up and leaving with his lunch.
After he left, I immediately sat down in his previous spot across from April. It was silent as I stared at her with a slightly irritated look as she continued to avoid my gaze. Finally, when she gained the courage, looked me in the eyes and started to talk, "Y/N, I'm so sorry about yest-" "Don't." I cut her off, only getting more irritated.
April winced again, knowing she was in trouble for sure. You never let your anger get the best of you unless you were extremely upset about something. Most of all, you never take it out on someone unless they deserved it. And April knew she deserved every bit of your anger for bailing on you with out any warning.
"April," I said, gaining her attention again. "Do you... not want to be friends with me anymore?" I ended, hurt clear in my voice and facial expression. "What?" April exclaimed, furrowing her eyebrows in confusion. "Y/N, of course I still want to be your friend! I really am sorry that I've been basically neglecting you for the last couple weeks-" "The last month." I corrected her, making her wince for a third time that day. "...The last month... but that doesn't mean that I want to stop being friends with you! How about this! Tomorrow we can spend the whole day together! Just you and me! Like old times!" April offered with a smile on her face.
I hesitated for a bit, "You're not just going to ditch me after this, are you?" "I promise I'm not going to ditch you, just give me the chance to prove it." April softly said with a gentle smile on her face. I sighed before smiling with her, "Okay." April sighed in relief and her shoulders relaxed, "Thank you Y/N, I'm not gonna let you down!" "You better not!" I sternly said while pointing at her, but quickly losing the tough guy façade and laughing with her.
"Hey babe!" I suddenly heard a male voice next to me. I look up to see my boyfriend, Aiden, smiling down at me. "You gonna sit with us today?" He gestured to the table he usually sat at and where all his friends currently are. "Not today, bubba. I'm gonna sit with April." I gave him an apologetic smile. "But it's Friday and I haven't seen you all day..." He pouted, sticking out his bottom lip. I stood up from my seat and made my way over to him, standing on my tippy toes to give him a kiss on his cheek while placing a hand on his unoccupied cheek (of course not without him leaning down a few inches for you). "Monday. I promise." I said while looking him in his dark blue eyes. He sighed then gently smiled at me, "Alright." "Thank you! You're the best!" I cheered, making him smile bigger and kiss me on my temple before heading over to his friends.
