"Those things can't be true," Chris shook his head, "they just can't be."
"I'm telling you they are, and I need your help."
"Do you have any proof of this?"
"I have all the proof in the world," he spoke with such rage, his tone was piercing through Chris' chest. "I'm getting him with or without you."
Chris sighed, glancing towards his feet. All of this had been so sudden. His life had been a smooth ride—work had been the same as ever, he lived in the same condo as always, except that Jamie no longer lived upstairs. He worked under Connor who remarried Joe, and they seemed to be living a happy lifestyle. Even Fred, one of Connor's closest friends, seemed to be living his regular life, his wife being pregnant with twins.
All this made no sense.
"You're telling me this now? After all this time? Why couldn't you have told me sooner?" Chris questioned.
"It wasn't the right timing, and you wouldn't have believed me." When Chris failed to respond, a sigh was heard, "Look, I need your help alright? You don't have to say yes now, but think about it."
"You're telling me you want to kill my boss, and I have to simply agree to this?"
"I told you the whole story though!"
"How do I know it's true and you're not telling me a lie?"
"You don't have to believe me, Chris. I'm not here to keep going back and forth like this, I have to leave. If he finds out I came here, I'm screwed. I'll be back soon, let me know then."
After a few steps as they began walking away, Chris felt the empathy rise, the guilt begin to eat at his flesh as he watched them walk away. If it was all a lie, they would not have come to visit him like this, at this hour of the night as well.
Reluctantly, he shouted, "Wait!" When they turned around with a raised eyebrow, Chris shook his head, "I'll regret this but...sure, I'll help you."
They paused for a moment, before raising their chin, "What if you have to kill him, are you prepared to do it?"
Chris sighed, "Yes, I am."
