Chapter 18- Rising Power

Alexander's POV

In front of me stood Vice Overseer Teague Martin, of the Abbey of the Dark Outsider. I've wanted to meet this man for a long time now, and he finally stands before me.

Alexander: Where shall we begin Vice Overseer?

Martin: Well, for one you need to know the truth of the Abbey

Erickson: Truth?

Alexander: Explain Martin

Martin: Many of the scriptures and teachings of the Abbey are fabricated lies

Father: Well this is a new development

Alexander: Lies? What do you mean?

Martin: My predecessors have worked for years on end to make these lies. The reason is to protect the true faith that they had

Alexander: What was their true faith?

Martin: I'll do my best to condense it down to a short story. During the conquest and reign of the First Emperor, there were many religions

Erickson: If my studies are correct there were more than twenty

Martin: Yes, our religion was not in existence yet however. Considering the strife and disorder caused by each faith fighting each other, the First Emperor had to do something

Alexander: My history is rather basic, I never got to study in full detail the rise of the Empire

Martin: In short he subjugated the religions in a swift campaign. However this yielded an unexpected result

Vandenberg: What type of result?

Martin: The Abbey grew from the ashes of the fallen religions. In turn though, we got along with the First Emperor quite well

Alexander: Really? That's good to know

Martin: Yes, there's so much more I wish to tell you in depth. However I'll keep it short, basically after his death more scriptures were made mentioning a new emperor

Erickson: A new emperor?

Martin: Yes, one who would not be from the now corrupted bloodline of the First Emperor. The bloodline that has lost it's mandate to heaven

Alexander: How do you know all this Martin?

Martin: The High Overseer hid a book away in the deepest parts of our HQ. He said it was heretical due to it going against the current emperor

Alexander: I take it Prime Minister Honest went to great lengths to make sure it was never found?

Martin: Yes, he has bribed my superior quite a bit these past few years. Then again, Campbell was always corrupt

Alexander: A shame to see that even religion is tainted by the corruption of the Empire

Martin: I managed to find the book myself, which is how I know all of this

Erickson: Do you have the book?

Martin: Yes, and the Dark Outsider we worship is said to send this new ruler. That, or the new ruler is to be our deity

Father: This is all very enlightening, I look forward to seeing what comes from this

Alexander: Interesting, anything else Martin?

Martin: I will be leaving the book in your hands, it is far more safe that way. There is also a part within it I could not understand, it is written in an ancient language
