I think many of us, maybe the entire town, had been hoping against hope that somehow Jason blossom hadn't drown in July 4th. That we'd come to school Monday morning, and there Jason would be. Or that we'd see him and Cheryl in a booth at Pop's. But that was before the undeniable, irrevocable fact of his bloated water-logged body, a corpse with a bullet hole in its forehead, and terrible secrets that could only be revealed by the cold, steel blade of a coroner's autopsy scalpel, or the telltale bearing of a guilty heart.
Selena's POV
Me and Toni are at my locker before heading to first hour. We hear the announcement speaker come on and wait for the buzzing to stop.
"Good morning, student. This is your principal Backe speaking. If you could give your attention to Sheriff Keller."
"The fuck he doing here." I ask
"Jason Blossom. Heard they did it at Riverdale and now he's here." Toni tells me
"Most of you already know the details, but a student over at Riverdale High Jason Blossom's body was found late Saturday night. So as of the weekend, Jason's death is now being treated as a homicide. It is an open and ongoing investigation. If you know anything that could help us find and apprehend Jason's killer, or anything about what happened to him on July 4th, I strongly urge you to come forward immediately. You can speak with me or Principal Backe. A death like this wounds us all. Let's not let Jason down."
As Keller walks out Pea say "Will do Sheriff" putting his fist in the air and walk past.
"Yeah we have Jason in our hearts." I say walking in the opposite direction of him with my hand over my heart. I hear Keller sigh heavily.

It was a couple hours after school. Sweet Pea was outside working on a serpents motorcycle to earn some money. I was in the kitchen working in my sketchbook.
"Alice is here" Sweet Pea burst the door open. I turn to look and see Alice walking in behind him.
"What are you doing here?" I ask going back to sketching.
"Checking to see how my favorite god children are." She smiles setting her purse and tubber wear with food on the counter. Then looks over at the kitchen. Me and Sweet Peas mom always wanted to be an interior designer so our trailer doesn't look as crappy like some of the others in the park. The closest she ever got was doing Alice's house.
"Mhhmm" Sweet Pea says walking to the other side of the counter opposite of me. Alice being at the end where it curves.
"Some left overs." She hands the food to Pea. He puts it in the fridge and grabs a beer. Then opens it with his teeth. "Uh"
"Oh sorry." Sweet says. "You want one?" He points to the fridge trying to not laugh.
She turns and looks at me. "What are you doing sweetheart?" She sees my sketchbook with mason jar full of water and paint, a straw and paper by me.
"New art idea." I say looking down at it while putting my pencil in my mouth. "It's making art with bubbles then I'm drawing what I see."
"Which is five heads and a skull" she looks down at it.
"Yeah" I look up at. "I'm not done yet." I say
"It looks beautiful Lena." He smiles at me. "Right Alice?"
"Yes. You almost done?" She ask
"No I still have a lot to do."
We then hear scraping at the door. Sweet Pea goes to open the door and Hot Dog comes in. He greets Sweet Pea by jumping up on him so Pea can scratch his head while he laughs. Then Hot Dog sees Alice making him go to her and doing the same. Alice groans and pets the dog.
"Hot Dog" Alice says making him bark.
"Was this all you came for" Pea ask
"Um no. Selena" she looks at me as I finally get my turn to pet hot dog. "You got any sage"
"Yeah" I jump down from my stool. I walk into the open living room and go to the shelf where we keep a bunch of things. I bend down to the lowest shelf and grab a sage stick. "Make sure all of the windows are open when you light this okay." I say walking towards her.
"What do you need it for" Sweet Pea ask with his nosey ass.
"Cheryl Blossom came by earlier."
"Shit I would use two" I joke. I use one after every party cause you never know.

Those bright neon lights of Pop's keeping the darkness at bay. Giving way, as all nights must, go a morning reckonings. As shocking as those three words were, they were nothing compared to the secrets that Jason's body had given up during its autopsy. That Jason didn't die one July 4th, as we believed, but over a week later.
