"This way children."
A very large group of children were led inside of Hogwarts to be greeted at a grand staircase by Professor McGonagall.
"Welcome to Hogwarts," said Professor McGonagall. "The start-of-term banquet will begin shortly, but before you take your seats in the Great Hall, you will be sorted into your houses. The Sorting is a very important ceremony because, while you are here, your house will be something like your family within Hogwarts. You will have classes with the rest of your house, sleep in your house dormitory, and spend free time in your house common room. The four houses are called Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, and Slytherin. Each house has its own noble history and each has produced outstanding witches and wizards. While you are at Hogwarts, your triumphs will earn your house points, while any rulebreaking will lose house points. At the end of the year, the house with the most points is awarded the house cup, a great honor. I hope each of you will be a credit to whichever house becomes yours. The Sorting Ceremony will take place in a few minutes in front of the rest of the school. I suggest you all smarten yourselves up as much as you can while you are waiting." McGonagall looked around. "I will return shortly, stay out until further notice." She then walked off.
Avyanna looked around nervously, she didn't want to get sorted, she was to nervous. If she got a house other than Slytherin, her father would be very angry with her, if she did get into Slytherin, she felt as if she would dred it. She didn't know why, but she just felt that way.
"Pansy," She whispered into Pansy's ear. "Do you think the Potter boy is here?"
"Just see for youself." Pansy pointed towards the front of the crowd.
Draco was in front of a boy with glasses on. It was the boy that Avy saw on the train, the redheaded boy was beside him.
"And I'm Malfoy, Draco Malfoy." She heard Draco tell Potter.
"Think my names funny do you? Red hair, and a hand me down robe, you must be a Weasley." At this point Draco was staring down the redhead, the Weasley, who seemed very uncomfortable.
There was so much whispering that Avy couldn't hear rest of the conversation but Draco came back to where Pansy, Blaise and her were. He seemed angry and there was two rather ugly looking boys behind him. But before he could say something, the students were to be directed to the dining hall.

The dining hall was strangely beautiful. The ceiling was bewitched to make it look like a stary night sky, and there was candles all around. Avy saw the sorting hat, and all the professors at the back of the hall.
There was a wizard with a long white beard and hair with tiny round glasses on. It must be Headmaster Dumbledore, Avyanna thought.
After a longish speech the headmaster gave, the sorting ceremony began.
Harry Potter, unlike many thought, was a Gryfindor, so was the redhead, Ron Weasley, and the girl who was with them on the train. Draco was a Slytherin, in fact, the hat didn't even need to be placed on his head to figure it out. Now she REALLY didn't want to be Slytherin. It came Blaise's turn, then Pansy's, they were both choosen to be  Slytherins. A few more students got sorted, then;
"Avyanna Cummins, step forth." She heard Dumbledore say.
Avy walked over to the stool where she would sit to get placed. She didn't want Slyhterin, not with the Malfoy boy, just not Slytherin in general. But she HAD to get Slytherin, she would fail her father and family name. Not a person in the Cummins family has been in any other house than Slyherin. She couldn't fail her father. In fact, she was scared to.
She sat down on the stool as the hat was placed onto her head.
"Interesting." The Sorting hat said. "Its a Cummins. You do have so MANY Slytherin qualities...."
Slytherin qualities? She honestly didn't see it, or maybe they were there, she just didn't want to see it.
"I have made the decision," The hat said. "SLYTHERIN!"
Avyanna sighed, it's done. She looked over at her sister, sitting at the Slytherin table, she was smiling her "perfect little smirk". Pansy seemed glad, so was Blaise. Draco did the oddest glare Avy had seen, one she hadn't seen yet. It was a more confused glare.
She got off the stool and walked down to the Slyhterin table and sat between Blaise and Pansy.
"Well, your one of us now." Pansy said.
"I guess I am." Avyanna looked down at her hands.
"Good luck Sister." Avyanna turned around to see Brianna looking at her. "Father will be happy to hear the news, wouldn't want him angry would you?"
"Of course not sister, we wouldn't want that would we?" Avyanna answered her mockingly.
"I'm surprised you got into Slyhterin Cummims." Said Draco, who happened to be sitting right across from her. "I thought you wouldn't be able to get into Hufflepuff, your so weak."
"Shut up, at least the sorting hat took more time deciding my house than he did you." Avyanna answered back.
"Hah, it's obvious isn't it, I was born Slytherin."
"Oh, that's funny, I thought you were more Hufflepuff, or muggle if you werent born a Malfoy. Your not as tough as you think you are Draco."
Draco got red. "How dare you say that to me! My father will here about this! Just you wait, you'll probubly be so weak you'll drop out."
"Oh my god, that's enough you two!" Pansy snapped her fingers at them. "Besides, the sorting is finished. Dumbledore is saying something."
As Dumbledore spoke to the students, Avy kept thinking about what the sorting hat said. Qualities of a Slytherin? Maybe it was a family thing? Was there something she didn't know about herself? She honestly didn't know. Maybe she was just stupid, or she just didn't want to realize she IS a Slytherin.
Suddenly, food appeared in front of her. She blinked her eyes fast and hard, she should've paid attention.
"Aren't you going to eat?" Pansy said as she reached across Avy to grab food off a platter.
"Oh, yes, of course." Avy said as she placed food on her plate, it was good no doubt, but she couldn't stay focused. She looked over to the Gryfindor table. Harry Potter was there, with the Weasley boy, and the girl. They all seemed happy. She looked back at the Slytherin table. Everyone seemed, serious, or angry, or proud. At least her father will be proud. If he is happy with her, it will make everything change, hopefully.
"I suppose Harry Potter declined your friendship?" Blaise asked Draco.
"Yes, it's very unfortunate really, associating himself with a Weasley, and look," Draco nodded toward the Gryfindor table. "A mudblood too. How pathetic, I don't think he's as famous, or special, as he and everyone thinks he is."
Draco, Blaise, Crabbe and Goyle started laughing while Pansy just smirked. Avyanna sat there quietly, her father always taught her not to associate herself with the wrong people, including muggle-borns. Avy had  grown up disliking them, she felt that they shouldn't be called a racist term though.
She looked back at the Gryfindor table, she had to admit, it was in a way, pathetic for someone who seems so famous to be freinds with lowly people.

The Slytherin dorms where honestly beautiful. The commonroom was a bit dark, but the dark green tapestry and sofas made it nicer. There was a strange aquarium and a fire place. The girls and boys dorms were seperated.
It was late at this point and all the Slytherins were in their dorms. Avyanna's bed was by Pansy and a another girl named Naomi. Her things were already brought up to her, so she decided to look through them to be sure they weren't tampered with. She did have valuable belongings in there.
Her bird was there, perched in its cage, a sleek black horny owl. In her trunk was her robes, books and wand. Only last week she had gotten supplies with her father at Diagon Alley. She got her wand at Ollivander's Wand Shop. It was an Ebony wood wand with a Unicorn Hair core. It choose her, at least that's what the shopkeeper said. In fact, it choose her awfully quickly. It was the first wand she picked up and there seemed to be an instant connection.
Avyanna sat the wand down and crawled into her bed.
"Psst, Avy." Pansy said as she got up and sat on Avy's bed.
"What do you want, I'm tired." Avy replied.
"I don't understand why you seem to be so sore about being in Slytherin." Pansy whispered.
"Erm, what are you talking about?" The last thing Avy wanted was for people to judge or think wrongly of her.
"You just seemed upset about it. I don't understand though, I mean, I know it's none of my business, but your family is known for your incredibly long line of Slytherins."
"I'm not disappointed." Avy responded quickly. "I'm sorry, I must have been tired."
"Yes, perhaps your right. Goodnight Avy."
"Wait, Pansy."
"Yes."
"What is wrong with the Malfoy boy? I can't stand him, and it's only the first day."
"You will have to get used to it, I suppose. I met him last year at a party at the Malfoy manor. Our fathers where doing business.  I guess he isn't so bad when you agree with him."
"Hah, I don't believe that."
"Well, it would be hard for you to wouldn't it?"
"Our fathers do hate each other, and I see why."
"Well, you don't have to be like your father."
Avy didn't really know about that, in a way yes, but in another she HAD to be like her father.
"Yes, goodnight now."
"Goodnight." Pansy said as she went back to her own bed.
The last thing she wanted was a bad reputation, and Avy thought that her being enemies with Malfoy was going to be a start of problems. If people also found out she didn't want to be in Slytherin, they might start making rumors or make fun of her. And most importantly, she had to keep the family name.
Oh shut up Avy, your better than this, she thought to herself. Avyanna always had a tendency to over think everything.
All she really needed was rest, if she had a good night's sleep she may be able to rethink this whole situation.
And so, Avyanna drifted off into sleep.
