You lightly jumped down into the recently made crater. Things were still smoking, but it was quiet. All of the fighting that was happening was gone, presumably, everyone who was fighting died in the explosion. You were on the edge of the island when it happened, and you could've stayed there, but something drew you in. It was as if some mysterious force was pulling you closer and closer to the crater, and finally, into it.
It was quiet, the only sounds was the scraping of rock and concrete underneath your feet. You were glad you were wearing your boots, if you were in sneakers, you probably wouldn't have stood a chance in the smoking wasteland. It was also dark, the sun had gone down, but the full moon provided enough light that you didn't need a flashlight to avoid tripping over rubble.
You got closer and closer to the center of the crater, what sort of power was unleashed to cause destruction of this kind? It definitely seemed supernatural of some sort. You remembered seeing the great blue and black dome appear out of nowhere. It grew and grew and you feared that you would've been swallowed in it, but as luck would have it, you were safe. And here you were, going to the source. Man, if some of the members of the Sheep, along with your parents, knew what you were doing, you'd be in so much trouble.
This would just have to remain a secret. You shuddered as you thought about how much your parents would yell at you if they found out. The Sheep would be more forgiving...probably.
You reached the center that was practically flat. Nothing out of the ordinary, but, was that a body? You rushed over to the body that was laying in the center of it all. You didn't see any bodies on your way into the crater, so seeing one both shocked you and made you intrigued. You kneeled next to him, he was young, around your age, and breathing.
He had survived.
You scanned his body to see if there were any fatal wounds, but he seemed relatively unscathed. Yes, he was scratched up, but he wasn't dead, scorched, or bleeding out.
Carefully, you tapped his face. He snorted in annoyance but didn't wake up. "Hey!" you shook him and slapped his face a couple times, "hey!" He snorted again before his eyes opened blearily. You sighed in relief as you smiled at him, "that was quite an explosion. I'm impressed you survived."
"'Splosion?" he muttered as he rubbed an eye with a fist, "what're you talkin' 'bout?"
Oh. Did he have no memory of what just occurred? Or maybe he was the cause of it. No way, someone as young as him couldn't have done something big like this. "What's your name?" you decided to not delve into the topic, seeing as how he clearly didn't know anything about it. Even though he was in the center of it. Strange? Yes, but you weren't one to think too much about it.
There was a pause, and he furrowed his brows as he thought about it. Maybe he did hit his head, "Nakahara Chuuya."
You put your hand out with a smile, "nice to meet you. I'm (l/n) (y/n)." He dubiously looked at your hand before he shook it, a small smile of his own forming on his face. You couldn't help but notice how the moon was already up and this kid was laying passed out in the center of a crater. Almost like nobody was looking for him. "Do you have some place to stay the night?" you bit your tongue immediately after the words sprang from your lips. You didn't mean to ask that. You didn't have a plan on what to do if he said no and...he shook his head to indicate he didn't have a place to stay.
You tried to keep your face impassive as you thought about it. You could bring him back to your place, but your parents would be livid. Or, you could bring him to the Sheep's base, but they might not accept him either. Besides, doing so would reveal that you went into the crater. You'd take your chances with the Sheep. You pushed yourself to your feet and extended your hand again to help him up, "can you stand?"
He grabbed a hold of your hand and pulled himself up to his feet, guess that answers your question, "so what are you doing out here in the middle of the night?"
✧✧✧
"Knock knock," you called out quietly as you tapped on the post three times before ducking past the cloth hanging over the entrance with Chuuya quick at your heels. Your conversation with him as you returned to the base was an interesting one. He didn't have a lot of backstory, no recollection of his parents, what he was doing before the explosion, he hardly even remembered the explosion. You're not going to lie, it made you a little uneasy, but he was just a kid like you. You would feel worse leaving him alone to fend for himself.
"(y/n)," you weren't surprised that someone was at the base, but the quickness of his response did take you aback. You didn't exactly expect someone to be wide awake at this time, but at least it was one of the foundational members. His dark eyes narrowed as he eyed the red-head behind you, "who's this?"
You motioned for Chuuya to stand next to you, "this is Nakahara Chuuya, he uh," you silently cursed at yourself as you fumbled over your words, "he doesn't have a place to stay."
The black-haired superior crossed his arms, unconvinced, "so what do you want us to do about him?"
You knew this wasn't going to be easy, especially since the Sheep were wary of outsiders, "please take him in." You answered and bowed to show your respect, "he has nowhere else to turn to."
Shin turned his attention to Chuuya, "where'd (pronoun) find you?"
"School," you interrupted before Chuuya answered and gave him a glare to tell him to follow along with the story. Looking slightly bewildered, Chuuya nodded in agreeance. "Please," you turned back to Shin with the best puppy dog eyes you could muster, "his parents kicked him out." You knew that would get a reaction out of the older boy, since he had some issues with his parents that led to him being one of the Sheep members who was always around. And clearly, he was spending his nights crashing at the current base.
The older black haired boy in front of you ran a hand through his hair with fatigue, "yeah." He let out a long breath through his teeth, looking at the ground as if in deep focus, before turning his attention to Chuuya, "listen kid, know that this won't be comfortable, we're just barely scraping by." Chuuya nodded again to show his understanding and you stood grimly at his side. You knew what Shin was talking about, but you didn't think he was going to drop it on Chuuya all at once. Especially minutes into meeting him. Shin stood up from the pile of boxes he was resting against, "if you join the Sheep you will have allegiance to us. The group gets into fights every now and then, so we're always moving." He sighed heavily, "we don't have a place to call home."
"Don't you think you're being a little too dramatic?" a new feminine voice asked and a new figure jumped down into the scene from the rooftops. You smiled as you looked at the new person, she'd definitely be more understanding.
Shin jumped back in shock before he started cursing out the new person, "I'm being dramatic? Says the person who jumped in from the sky!"
She ignored Shin's protests and looked at you with a tilt of her head, "you said he's a school friend?" the magenta-haired girl asked. You nodded in agreeance, "then he's probably around 8 years old," she turned to look at Shin with a hand planted on her hip, "there's no need to scare him off with the harsher realities we deal with. It's not like we're going to be sending them into battle anytime soon."
Shin let out an annoyed grunt as he crossed his arms and sulked in the shadows. The girl extended a hand out with a grin as she crouched down to get to Chuuya's height, "I'm Kana."
"Chuuya Nakahara." The redhead responded quietly and he returned her shake with a limp hand.
"Welcome to the Sheep Nakahara!"
AN: A little self-indulgent thing I've been working on~ Aaaa, I told myself I'd focus more on original stories, but I'm simping hard for Chuuya and Dazai. The character in the photo is Kana!
