Emily POV

I walk into school on Monday and see Kelsey twirling her hair and talking to so!e guy I've never seen before. When I walk up to them Kelsey gives me a look to walk away, but I don't. "Hey guys." I say and strand next to Kelsey looking at the boy. He raises an eyebrow at me and I smirk a little. "Kelsey are you going to introduce me to your friend?" I can tell that she is getting frustrated with me, but hey what are friends for, right? She breaths in.

"Em, this is Josh, Josh this is my friend Emily." He nods his head and I smile, not showing teeth. I resently had to get braces on and still don't like them on myself. Ashton says they make me look like a cute nerd especially with my glasses on. "Anyway, Emily, why are you here so early?"

"Kels, I'm always here this early. Why are you here this early?" She just bites her lip and looks at Josh. "Well, bye." I say and walk away sensing my unwantedness. I walk down the hall to my locker and put in the combination, and it doesn't work so I hit it a few times and try again. This is my every morning rutien, trying to get my locker open. When it finally does open, I toss my jag in and grab the books I need an close it. I start towards homeroom, when Zander runs into me, knocking all my books to the ground. "Zander, what the hell?" I say and bend down to pick my books up, then notice Zander kept running and three guys ran after him. I roll my eyes and pick all of my books up and drop them I'm homeroom. My teacher isn't here yet so I decide to try and figure out what is happening with Zander. I walk in the direction of the way they ran off to, until I reach the glass showcase (its a hallway just all window) I look out to the front of the school and then to the courtyard, and there he is running around trying to get away from the three guys that were chaseing him before. I walk out and they all stop and look at me except Zander. I recognize one if the boys who goes by the name Drew. "What are you guys doing?" I yell out.

"Worry about your own business, would'ya?" A boy with dark hair yells out.

"I am."

"Oh are you guys dating." They start making smoochy faces and Zander runs in the buidlimg a different way without them noticing.

"Gross! He's my cousin!" I scream and go back inside, only to find Zander walking down the hall with a limp. "Hey, you okay?" I ask running to catch up with him.

"Yeah, I'm fine. You can leave now." He says sharply.

"Wow how big is the pole that's up your butt?"

"I said leave, Emily, your ruining this for me."

"Ruining what?" I ask laughing a little and stop walking.

"Life." He says and keeps walking.

"Oh I understand, you want to be popular? Why? Are we not good enough for you?"

"Hey, what's happening?" Andy asks running up. I don't answer right away and I watch as Zander disappears with a limp down the hallway. I turn to Andy and show a little smile.

"Nothing, everything's fine." I tell her and we walk back to homeroom together. We are in all the same classes and we have some classes with other friends too. When we get there the bell rings right as we walk in the door for everyone to be in homeroom. That means classes start in 5 minutes. We sit next to each other in the back.

"So have you heard from Ashton lately?" She asks me and I look at her confused and shake my head no. She looks shocked. "Really, I thought you guys talked everyday." I shake my head again.

"No, he told me to keep focusing on my school work because he thought he was distracting me." Ashton went to San Hose for ten days to visit some of his family. Its day six. Four more days without him sadly.

"Wow you most be bumming." Andy is the oinky one that I admitted that I liked Ashton and she promised she wouldn't ever tell anyone unless I said it was okay. I shrug at her comment.

"I mean we still text sometimes, but no all night face time anymore. So I get sleep now." I smile.

"Emily, you don't sleep anyways, what's the difference?"

"That Ashton doesn't like talking to me in front of his family for some reason." I sigh.

"Oh hell no I'm gonna talk with that boy." Before I can argue the bell rings for first period. We walk side by side in the hallway, and I don't feel in the mood to talk anymore. We get to our first class and sit down next to each other. The whole day I tune everyone out, even in music which isn't like me at all. When I get home I lay in bed and stare at my ceiling. Something needs to happen in my life. I sigh thinking to myself about my boring life. My eyes gently close, and I think about the experiment. I can't believe its been so long since then. Almost four years now. All I remember is the things that happened to the people I already knew which is my family. I know that I was in love, but I don't know who. I know that I had friends, but I don't know who. I like it that way though. If I knew who they were, I might blind myself with that and try and be like it was in the experiment, when the experiment was oinky an experiment. I don't even know if that was true love or not. True love is what's between my mom and dad. They have a stronger love than Snow White and her prince. They always tell me that the experiment could have been my other life, that everyone always has a flip side where everything is almost completely backwards. Just then I get a knock on my door. I look over and yell "come in" my door opens revealing my mother. She smiles and comes in closing the door behind her. She sits on my bed and hovers over me.

"Hey how are you?" I don't respond. I keep thinking of how they always tell me that everyone has a different life.

"What do you think your other life is like?" I ask her. She smiles bright.

"When I was your age I actually wrote it all down. I thinkvit pretty good if you ask me."

"Do you still have it?" She nods her head. "Can you read it to me?" She brushes my hair out of my face and whispers"of course" and goes to get it. Knowing my mom its a sappy love story, because she's so sweet and all. At the same time though, there is a dasrk and mysterious side to her. She comes back in and sits down with a bunch of note books and loose papers in a pile.

"I call it 'Divergent'." And with that she begins to tell me her story of another life.
