The Captains kept a close eye on Asta for test to test, since his magic (or lack thereof?) caught their attention, more specifically, Yami and William Vangence.

They had noticed that Asta Artbook, which they thought was his Grimoire, but they would be shown wrong soon.

After the Captain of the Golden Dawn announced the final test, Asta knew that this was his moment to shine.

Asta resisted the urge to summon Missing Ache right this instant. 'Wait, other than the broom test all I've been doing is shouting this whole Exam!' The Keyblade wielder, ironically, shouted in his mind. 'The best way to show off now is to pair off with someone tough. There's gotta be someone who'll agree to fight me.' He panicked in his mind. That is until he felt a hand on his shoulder.

"Ha, ha!" Asta turned to the voice and saw Sekke. "What do you say you and i pair up?" He asked Asta.

Asta cheered. "You really mean it Sekke? You're willing to take on a charity case like me?"

Sekke smiled. "Oh, absolutely! Ha, ha!"

Asta want to thank the mage, but a sudden feeling caused him to stop. He wasn't sure, but somehow he could tell the teen wasn't as honest as he seemed.

In fact this wasn't the first time Asta had this feeling. Ever since he had obtained his Keyblade he could, sense people's emotion? He wasn't sure himself, but he trusted his feeling. And fortunately for the Ash-Blond teen, he was right.

"We're ready for the first bout. Let's go." The announcer said.

Asta in his excitement volunteered first, with Sekke showing no problem in going first.

The Keyblade wielder and Mage stood in front of each other. Asta encouraged Sekke to go all out against him, until said mage placed a hand on Asta's shoulder.

Sekke let's out a chuckle as he moves his face closer to Asta's. "Stop trying so hard. It's almost getting painful to watch. You're just a grubby little gutter rat who's way out of his depth. Did you honestly expect to get into the magic knights without a grimoire?" He said, making Asta look at him in slight disbelief. "I guess i should thank you for sticking around and making me look good. Once I'm chosen by a squad, I plan to kick up my heels and enjoy the ride. It's going to be so much fun." Asta dawned a neutral face as Sekke kept talking. "Now. Let's get this over with, shall we?" Asta let out a faint growl towards Sekke. "Then you can scurry on home to the garbage heap you came from, and get back to whatever pitiful excuse of a life you have left. Ha, ha!" Sekke said as he turned and left Asta halfway to prepare for the battle.

Asta stood there with a unreadable expression. It was times like these that Asta remembered why he wanted to be the Wizard King in the first place and the strange events that have happened in life so far.

At first it was a silly childish goal of wanting to marry Sister Lily, he was still a child at that time. But after saving Yuno from that drunken man when they were kids and declared their race to become the Wizard King, Asta had a strange dream. In fact it was that same dream that got him into drawing in the first place, he wanted to never forget that dream. He remembered the dream so vividly, that he was convinced that the faces he saw were people he would meet in the future.

And he was right. Yuno now looks like how he did in that dream. Then Asta meet that muscular man, who if he recalled was a squad captain. That left him with only one person left, the girl with pigtails and silver hair.

Asta didn't like the hierarchy of the Clover Kingdom and wanted to change that to spread equality for the Kingdom.

Asta was so tempted to show of his spells, but after Sekke's comment, Asta was just willing to one-shot the mage, since he found out that his Keyblade could cut through anything even spells.
