MY LIFE WAS ANYTHING but normal, observations from the past few months proved better.
At the start of my senior year, I came across Dylan Bastin, the star football player of Liberty High. With his dark brown hair, his sharp jawline, the handsome sculpted face of his, Dylan charmed me. Never missing the way his pupils dilated when he glanced over at me making me startled all the time. Yet the rumors said otherwise; Dylan never claimed to have a crush on me. Every time I caught him walking down the corridor, he looked thoroughly at me.
After some days, it became frustrating, I needed to know whether he really liked me or not, the mixed signals I received from him was infuriating. But then I never got a chance to ask him, Dylan started dating Sarah. But after a week of dating Sarah, his drunk confession was recorded by Jaden in a party, shouting his lungs out, declaring his unrequited love for me.
Till now, my life has been a big tragedy, eventually, I rejected him, I needed my studies to be my top priority. After his drunk video went viral, students in Liberty High started recognizing me. Popularity wasn't something I ached for but now that it came naturally, I had to make sure I don't ever step into a wrong puddle.
Kyle Rivers wasn't someone who was prominent, he was rather more of a reserved person, yet he managed to pave his way into the popular's list. He had the looks of a Greek God, his beautiful smile always-on display.
The rain slammed across the window, the wind gushed over, the squeaking noises made by the strong winds gave rise to me trembling. It had been sheer ten minutes since Kyle had gone inside to change. The hot kettle started to make noise, telling me the water had started to boil inside. Two mugs we're sitting on the top of the counter, taking the jar filled with coffee powder from the top button shelf, adding a spoonful of coffee into both of the mugs along with half spoon sugar. Finally pouring down the hot water and milk into the cup.
It wasn't known to me how many spoons of sugar he took in his coffee, I could only guess. The opening of the door of my parents ' room did not go unnoticed by me. Soon enough I saw him, in the living room, his disheveled black hair caught my attention. "You can sit down" I gushed, two mugs of coffee still in my hand. Kyle nodded, from what it looked like, he certainly took a hot shower, I wasn't complaining. He sat down on the single couch, handing him the coffee mug, I, myself sitting down on the middle couch.
"Where are your parents and Jace?" He sounded calm, there was something so different about his voice that always attracted me. Hearing Jace's name from his mouth did not feel foreign, Jace was just a year older than me, he just graduated last year. My brother was known by most of the school, he was mischievous, pulling pranks on everyone was his habit. Suspension for him was normal, he had gotten used to it by the end of High School.
"They are in London'' I answered him, sipping my coffee before it became cold. Kyle raised his eyebrows, the way his eyes moved everywhere around my house told me he was observing everything like it was some piece of artwork. A habit of Kyle I had noticed in these past months. "Why did you not go?" His question took aback, why did he have to know? Maybe he was trying to be polite and then maybe he is going to reject me.
"I have been there a couple of times, thought I would spend my spring break with my friends" I remarked, moving my eyes from him, uncertain that if any longer I gazed at him, I would want to pounce on him and run my fingers through his hair. His presence in the room itself was much for me to handle. With a small nod, he retrieved his attention back to his coffee, letting me breath in relief.
There was still a part of me which was jumping in content with the news of his breakup with Sydney. "What brings you here Kyle?" Keeping aside the cup of coffee on the table in front of me, my eyes fixed back on him. Know sipped his coffee one more time and he kept the cup down on the table too. Giving me his full attention. "I wanted to escape─" Kyle trailed off, stretching his legs as he ran his fingers through his hair. "My ex-girlfriend; Syney, she was following me everywhere. I was passing by when I saw the rain intensified, your house was close by"
For some seconds I watched him close his eyes, his thick eyelashes visible to me, his spotless skin made me want to touch him. When I met his brown eyes, he looked composed and collected. Kyle was a person who never lost his temper, another one of my observations. "I am sorry, I─"
"You need not need to be sorry about it. I should thank you for the clothes. Thanks Heaven" Kyle's generous voice stirred something inside me, shivers running down my spine. How does a person's voice have such an effect on someone? Kyle lowered his eyes, watching me thoroughly. Shyly, I averted away from his face, my cheeks heating instantly.
I bit my lower lip, too embarrassed that if I met his eyes again, I might do or say something inappropriate. It took him only some words to train my eyes back at him. "I should leave" Kyle scratched the back of his neck, his movement very swift. Didn't he want to know about that absurd message Brittney sent him through the text?
He was up on his feet and so was I, looking down at the carpet. My eyes followed his large legs, going upwards, the black T-shirt of my brother fitting perfectly on him, his biceps were on display. Averting my eyes away felt the hardest thing, the atmosphere already awkward, nothing was in my favour tonight. Kyke took some steps forward, not coming any closer to me.
"I'm sorry for causing so much trouble" Even though he was apologizing, it felt very strange to me, he did not need to feel bad about it. "I would have helped anyone who was standing outside Kyle, it's not a big deal" It was the truth, I could have acted more cold and strange if it was someone unknown, or altogether would have never spoken a word but it was Kyle Rivers, I knew him.
The thunder rumbled, I whimpered lowly, my eyes shutting close tight. I needed someone to talk to distract me, I felt my breathing heavy, it was almost as if I couldn't take in air anymore. My first instinct was to catch hold of the nearest thing, preventing myself from falling. "Hey, Heaven, look at me" His soft voice was all I could hear except the thundering in the background.
I hadn't caught any object nearby but it was Kyle's arms that I laid in. Never realizing that we were now sitting on the ground. His worried face was all I could see, the frown between eyebrows deepened, he had been talking to me but I couldn't hear anything. I just looked at his lips for the last time before my breathing heaved and my eyes closed down, darkness consuming me.
