IT NEVER OCCURRED TO ME HOW much of a gentleman Kyle was until now.
As we finished eating the pasta made by him, he had returned after a phone call, with his eyes dull. He looked completely lost, he did not ask me any question whilst I waited for him to speak something, anything. I wanted to ask him what had happened but knowing how a closed person he was, Kyle would rather be quiet.
The rain hadn't stopped, making me wonder if I would ever survive the night completely alone in my house. My mum; Elizabeth Knight has always been a concerned mother, I was expecting a call from her in half an hour. Mother wanted me to come along with her, she was adamant on dragging me with her but my dad; Max Knight, he had my back, as always.
Looking back, if I could change one thing, it would be the day when I refused to tag along with my family. It wasn't my wisest choice. Kyle cleared his thrust, he was up on his feet, my attention drawing towards him. With his plate in his hand, he had moved ahead to take hold of my plate too but I took it away from him instantly. "I'll do it" I muttered, he was treating me like a guest while he was the one whom I was supposed to serve like a guest.
Kyle nodded at me, his eyes never meeting mine after that. It took every ounce of my energy to not make him turn towards me and run my hands along his jawline. Not only was he a true gentleman, he had an attractive face, a body of an athlete. Slowly, I moved into my kitchen to watch him washing his hands, his face turning to find me standing next to him.
Kyle stood so close to me that I could smell him, strong and intoxicating. I wanted to move, my body was betraying me, he was looking at me with doe shaped eyes, they seemed to drop down to my body, a wave of shiver running down my spine.
I looked away, it was difficult to breath when Kyle was standing so close to me, it made my heart beat faster. He did not bulge to move away, his eyes still fixed on me. My eyes did not miss it when he looked down at my lips making me feel emotions I have never felt. Kyle seemed to inch closer, his face ascending towards me. From here, I could see a faint scar over his left eyebrow, I wanted to touch it, examine it even more deeply.
"Would you like some hot chocolate?" His warm breath lingering on skin, sending tingles down my body yet again. It was unavoidable to feel this way when all he did was gaze at intensely. Slowly nodding at him, my own eyes darted downwards. The sound of the thunder cracking in the sky made my head swirl. It took only some seconds to make me realize that I had to face everything tonight, alone.
My hand fisted, I counted till ten to bring my breathing rate to normal, I grew anxious every second, another panic attack seemed to be on its way. Feeling a tug on my wrist, I was dragged into Kyle's chest, my breath hitching in my throat. Though he had his arms around me by now, I still had my eyes wide open, my head becoming heavy. His hard chest told me how much of a man he was and truly a great human being.
"You are safe now" I hadn't even told me how difficult it was to handle my panic attack but yet, here he was, helping me without any hesitation. Hearing another thunder, I squeezed my eyes, my arms going around his waist in an instance. I felt like a baby as he cooed me, making me feel safe in his arms. His warmness brought calm to my cold body which was freezing to death.
Inhaling in his scent was not my intention, he was so close, I won't ever be able to be so hear to him, he must have feeling that I was a weirdo, a big one. "You alright?" Breaking my chain of thoughts, I sighed heavily. "Thankyou Kyle" I parted away, I did not want him to feel any more uncomfortable. Steeping some inches away, I gave him a smile, a big one. Kyle nodded his head at me, scratching the back of his head while his eyes were still boring into mine.
"You should go home" I said, looking up at the time, it was going to be eleven o'clock, not wanting to waste his time on me anymore. "Are you sure? I could stay some minutes more" Kyle answered, he slowly bit his bottom lip and I immediately diverted my eyes away. "It's alright, you are free to go now"
Even though a part of me did not wanted him to go, he had to go back home. "Did that message mean anything?" The question startled me, it was becoming more difficult to meet his eyes. The message, it had totally slipped out of my mind that Brittney had sent him a message some hours ago. Biting my inner cheeks, I gathered my courage.
"I did not write that message" My voice was very low, my fingers playing with my ring in my index finger in anticipation. Kyle seemed to move closer to me one more time but maintaining a friendly distance thus time. "You did not write that message?" I shook my head in a rush to clear the confusion.
"So, you don't have a crush on me, do you?" My throat dried, I felt a loss of words. His eyes were looking curiously at me, he blinked several times, making me more sweaty. "That's none of your business" The words slipped out of my mouth even before I could figure out what I was going to say to him. His eyebrows rose up, he did not seem to be offended by my words but then what took me off guard was that he tucked my hair strand behind my ear.
Not bothering to move my eyes away from him, he inched closer, his warm hand remained on my skin, setting my cheeks on fire. It was unexpected, I never saw this coming, him standing so close to me.
Maybe this is all a mere dream.
"Tell me how it is none of my business?" The words slipped through his tongue carelessly and I found myself gazing at him. Kyle did not bulge to move his hands away from my cheeks, stroking his fingers on my skin every now and then. I wanted to lean in more, I felt myself seek for me every passing second.
For some split of seconds, I wanted to move away, hide my utmost desire for him but then will I ever have a chance to stay so close to him? "Heaven, will you be okay once I go?" Kyle asked, his fingers trailing down my face and hanging in the air. I missed the warmth on my skin immediately.
"I will be fine, now get going"
"Are you-"
"Yes Kyle, just go" Maybe it was a lie that I was going to be alright once he leaves. His mouth opening to speak something but then he shut his lips tight, shaking his head in the process. "Right then, I will get going" Kyle was about to walk away when the lights suddenly went off.
My words died in my throat, I counted till ten to calm myself down, it seemed to be working for now. Kyle turned around, a sigh escaping his lips. "Looks like even God wants me to be here, with you" Kyle uttered, moving closer to me once again but I moved away from him. Scared if he was so close to me yet again, I might do something regretful.
For now, we were stuck together.
