Mihael walked into the hallway with his head down and his hood up. He navigated the hallways avoiding contact with people as much as possible. It’s not like he hated people. He just didn’t like close contact with anyone. Not even his family. Not that his family was much of one. He only had his little brother and his mother. His mother was an alcoholic and brought home a different man every week. His brother was a freshman in high school and was struggling with school. He was pretty close to his brother but he hated his mom.

He ducked into his history class and took the farthest back corner seat. He pulled his hood down from his head. His hazel green eyes searched the room. The teacher walked into the noisy room and called for the class to be quiet. Mihael pulled out his notepad and a pen. After what seemed like hours of taking notes on the history of the medieval knights, he put down his pen and took out his book. The book’s title was The Healing.  He found his place in the book and started reading.

"Sophie looked at the massive black dragon in front of her. She was paralyzed with fear. She couldn’t move, couldn’t think, and couldn’t speak. The dragon snorted and a stream of smoke trailed from its nostril’s. She heard a voice inside her head. It was a low deep voice that somehow calmed her nerves. “I will not hurt you tiny human. I have come to take you to someone who will be able to help you.”

Sophie willed her body to move in the direction of the dragon. Her companion followed behind her.  They both climbed on the dragon and into the saddle that was on the dragons back. The dragon looked back at them with ice blue eyes. “Hang on little ones.”

He then raised his massive leathery wings and leaped into the air, beating his wings hard to keep them in the air. They soared over the trees and rivers. At first Sophie kept her arms tightly around the dragon’s neck and her eyes closed. But as she got used to being in the air she sat up and started looking around. She gasped at how beautiful the land looked. She had never seen anything like it before. She looked back at her companion. He had the same look of pure awe on his face. She laughed and whooped. The dragon smiled and roared. He beat his wings and rose higher in the sky. The dragon tipped up then dove straight down into a hole in the trees. They emerged into a clearing that was surrounded by people. The dragon landed and folded his wings. Sophie climbed out of the saddle and dropped to the ground."

“Mr. Mihael, would you care to answer my question?”

His head snapped up and looked at the teacher. “Can you repeat the question Mr. Davis?”

The teacher sighed. “The question was where were did the crusades take place and who was the king that led them?”

Mihael sighed. “The king’s name was King Richard the Lion Hearted and they went into the holy land in the Middle East.”

“Very good Mihael. Now class, remember that there is an assignment due on Monday and we will be going over chapters thirteen and fourteen. Have a good weekend! You are dismissed.”

As the class filed out of the class room Mr. Davis caught Mihael’s arm. “You should pay more attention in class. You got the question right but you can’t keep ignoring the lectures.”

Mihael quickly shrugged off the teacher’s hand. “I’m doing fine. I have the highest grade in the class. I’m not ignoring them. ”

Mr. Davis shook his head as Mihael walked out the door.
