Daniel

“Hey, guys!” a bunch of introductions rang around our group. I was amused by their cheeriness, which was very contagious. I immediately knew that I was not gonna get bored nor feel too alone here in this city.

I felt Matt relax behind me, probably realizing that Joshua wasn’t a threat anymore. “What’s up, guys!” he said, stepping eagerly in front of me. He might have also thought about making new friends and I wasn’t going to stop him.

“I’m Matthew, call me Matt, and this is my boyfriend Daniel,” he said as he pulled me up right next to him. My shirt was still wet, but it didn’t really bother me much, so I ignored it instead.

“But you can call me Dan,” I added and smiled. They all chuckled.

“You’re so cute!” Trisha commented and it caused a blush to erupt on my face. I shyly laughed and shrugged.

“Thanks,” I said with a meek tone. The show going on behind us continued and we paid no attention. We were all focused on the new people in front of us.

“Listen, man, I’m really sorry about the spill,” Joshua started again as he moved forward, grabbing some napkins from the nearby table and wiping it in the wet areas of my shirt. Matt didn’t allow it though and as soon as Joshua’s hand touched me, Matt grabbed the napkins from him and finished the job.

It didn’t do much good and still left my shirt damp though. “No, it’s fine, really,” i assured him with a genuine smile. I saw Joyce looking around us and I assumed it was to find an empty table.

“Hey, why don’t we all just sit together?” I suggested and I heard them all agree. “Just take another table and push it closer here.” They nodded and Joshua and Tristan grabbed a table while Trisha and Joyce grabbed chairs. With all the loud noises we’re making I was surprised that the hosts or performers of the shows hasn’t noticed us.

They all quickly took a seat, but the table gave us an awkward arrangement since they were circular. I sat on one end with Matt to my left and Trisha to my right and Joshua on the other end with Joyce next to Trisha and Tristan next to Matt. The chairs grinding on the floor made squeaking sounds that were a little painful to my ears.

I felt Matt tap me on my elbow while everyone gets settled down. “You’re still scratching?” he asked, I looked down and saw that I have been involuntarily scratching. I promised myself to keep both limbs away from each other from now on.

“Sorry,” I told him. He just patted my arm before sliding it down to meet my hands and twining our fingers together.

“So,” someone broke the silence. It was Joyce. “Where are you guys from? I don’t think I’ve seen you around here before.”
