KHYRA'S POV
We have been in the forest for a good two miles in silence. The only sound that could be heard was our feet on the ground and our soft breathing. It wasn't long before we heard English speakers. The village was bustling with foriegners from other far away lands. It was a shock for the warriors, since they have never seen people who had such pale skin and bluest of eyes resembling the ocean. I searched the busy streets and spotted a familiar path. The two others left and it was only Okahwe and I. I put my hand out and moved it towards me to motion Okahwe to follow. He stayed close behind, stiff and tense from his senses being heightened.
I moved swiftly through the crowd. The eyes of people were hot on our skin. Whispers lingered in the street. We were natives, our people barely traveled through the village unless it was for trade. Even so, it was unsual for tall, built, and a coppered-skinned man to walk protectively behind a native woman. Obnoxious whispers of those who knew who I was and confused people took a double take with the sight. I continued, not paying mind, I didn't care what they thought of who I was or what I am. I was desperate to find a clue for the disappearance of my people.
My first assumption was the pale skins took them and traded them. My imagination ran wild of the possibilities. I grew a vegeance for what they took from me, but Kajibwe convinced me I was making absurd accusations. I raged with how calm he was. I was supposed to be the one weeping and greiving. He was supposed to be angry, set ablaze, ready to kill and find out who took our tribe's children. But he was the complete opposite. He hid his pain and showed nothing. I didnt know this incident could make me have such vile thoughts on how I planned to torture this mysterious captor.
Lost in my deepest thoughts, I finally found myself stopped in front a shrine. No longer in the congested part of town, two people lurked in the street. Okahwe stopped behind me and waited for my lead. I went up to the shrine and the memory of when I first met Kajibwe flooded my head. The edges of my lips raised in a sad smile and it fell as fast as it raised. I sighed and bent down on one knee to inspect the old stone. I lifted my finger to scrap the dust on top. I slid it between my index and thumb shaking it till the dust sprinkled on the ground.
When I stared at the shrine it looked different. Something was off. The statue of the Cobra wasn't on top of the shrine anymore.
"Weird..." I softly whispered.
They must have gotten rid of the Cobra. Maybe it rusted and didn't seem nice.
Okahwe wasn't behind me anymore, but instead trying to explain to a woman if she's seen two little boys. She of course didn't understand him. She looked frightened as she clutched her skirt. Obviously she was afraid of Okahwe. He didn't notice her scared demeanor and continued struggling to make her understand. I chuckled and walked towards the little ruckess. The woman made eye contact with me as I made my way. I faked a reassuring smile.
"Okawhe, let the woman go. As you can't seem to tell she's frightened." I said in our native language.
Okawhe eyes lit up with realization and he let her wrist go. Still grinning, I smile in the woman's direction before speaking in English.
"I'm sorry for his behavior. He didn't understand" I laughed. "He's as harmless as fly"
Okahwe blindly nodded along not knowing what I was telling the woman."We just wanted to know have you seen two native boys. They have been missing for about two weeks. One about five years at this hieght and another much taller?" I motioned my hand resembling the height of each boy.
