Anyone Else But You - The Moldy Peaches "We sure are cute for two ugly people"

When Gem thought about Fred she always mentally scolded herself because she did not have time to think about boys or anything that didn't have to do with her studies , even though she had somewhat convinced herself she didn't need to make her parents proud to be successful she still had to focus in order to reach her goal. Though that night when Fred dropped her off in front of the Slytherin's rooms she felt something different something she had never felt , she would for now describe it as being sick because her stomach hurt and she felt lightheaded , she would later find more poetic words for it. She had laid awake the whole night not being able to rid herself of that "sick" feeling and when the morning came she didn't want to head to class so instead she made her way to the hospital wing hoping she could get something to get rid of the feeling , on her way there she ran into Angelina and asked her to inform her professors that she was feeling ill. She had admitted to Madam Pomfrey that she virtually got no sleep the night before so she gave Gem the option of going back to her room to get some sleep or staying in the hospital wing to sleep Gem chose to stay knowing that some of the Slytherins could be quite loud during the day , she laid for a bit thinking she wouldn't be able to fall asleep but as soon as she closed her eyes she fell into a deep slumber. She was dreaming about spending a day in London with her friends and no one telling them what to do or how to act until , she had felt someone tap on her palm and she woke up feeling a bit groggy she saw Fred and she turned her head to the other side of the bed and saw George "ah good thing you woke up Gem , Fred was just about to play a prank on you" Fred punched his brother in the arm "no I wasn't" Gem sat up looking at both boys "so Gem you skipped just to sleep and you got away with it" , Gem laughed telling them that she wasn't feeling very well. They stayed with her for awhile until Madam Pomfrey gave her a weird smelling tea telling her she could be on her way , "oh I totally forgot the reason Fred and I went to look for you Gem" ,"oh so it wasn't because you bloody nutters missed me" she joked faking a hurt look on her face "well actually we heard Snape has been looking for you today , we just came to warn you" Gem looked at the two brothers wondering if they were joking but they seemed to be telling the truth , she waved goodbye at them and made her way to Snape's office when she walked in it seemed there were students in there serving detention but before she could back out of his class he noticed her and beckoned her presence to his office. She walked quickly and with her head down , students looking at her with pity thinking that she was about to get in trouble with Snape , he closed the door as soon as she entered and motioned for her to sit "have I done something wrong professor" , "well besides that little stunt from yesterday no I called for you for another reason"  "oh" she said not knowing what to expect from him "I want apologize for what I said yesterday about the Weasleys , as unnerving as they are I never meant to offend you and your friendship with them , I believe Ms.Malfoy that you could be a very powerful witch , that is of course that your father continues to allow you to attend Hogwarts , it is no secret to me that he almost forbid you from coming here" , "how did you know about that professor" , "Dumbledore knows all and of everything he was the one who lead me to believe you could very successful but with little stunts like the one from yesterday it could all end here and no matter who your father pays to teach you at home Hogwarts has something they can't teach you" , "and what is that professor". Snape stayed silent he looked to be deep in thought "you know Gemini as much as I do hate to admit it I was once so similar to your father and I let it cloud my judgment and made many mistakes but here at Hogwarts I found some forgiveness" , Gem didn't really didn't know what he meant but she didn't want to ask afraid of the answer because that meant she would know more about her father's horrible acts towards. "You know professor you are are right without Hogwarts I wouldn't have separated myself from my father's beliefs and name as much as I have done so far , and I really appreciate you professor in a way I feel I can relate to you and you have by far been the most caring towards me and have offered me so much help but while I'm here I want to make a difference professor , if I had turned my back on a friendship with the Weasley I would be acting on the beliefs of my father" Snape stared at Gem lost in thought he knew Lucius Malfoy's daughter wasn't like him but he didn't know how different they were , contrary to what other students said about him he has come to care for Gem she reminded him of someone he knew too long ago , someone who was strong minded and independent who did not care what other people said about her or to her. He thought about what to say to her but he was at a loss for words which was rare "you know professor I really admire you I can say you were the first person in this school who has shown interest in what I can do and not what my father can do for you and I really appreciated when you told me that I could come to you to talk and I hope that still stands but with an open mind because I have decided that I cannot make my parents and myself happy at the same time and if you know my father as well as you say you do then you know the danger I am putting myself in" Snape sighed once again finding himself confused with nothing to say , though he does know he will tell Dumbledore of how the girl with her father's defining feature is the opposite of him and Snape knows the danger that comes with it , he handed her a cup of tea and he sat at his desk mulling over his thoughts. Gem finally excused herself figuring there was nothing left to say though she left with the silent knowledge that she could come to Snape for help , as she walked out of his office and then his classroom she was met with none other than Fred and he was holding up something familiar , it was her book that she swore she had stuffed in her bag with Snape caught them in the kitchen "Weasley where did you get my book from I could swear it was in my book bag" , "now now small and young Gem I have my ways , when I want something I always get it , and I think you promised to read to me" Gem snatched the book from his hand giving him a playful glare but nevertheless following besides him as they made their way to the courtyard finding no one else outside with the snow lightly falling making the floor slippery as well but the two didn't mind. And just as the day before Gem became engulfed in the book and though Fred wasn't a fan of reading he had to admit he was a fan of Gem , though he wouldn't admit that to her and his brother did tease him an unbearable amount of times he didn't care he was an 11 year old boy who simply fancied a girl and he would enjoy himself being this close to her until she got tired of his antics or that's what he kept telling himself. As she reached the last page her eyes filled with wonder realizing this is the first time she had actually finished the book considered the boy next to her had stopped her the first time with a snowball to her head , she looked to the side of her and realized Fred was already looking at her and she thought to herself that his boyish features were cute and this time she allowed thoughts of him to circulate in her mind and she liked it. After a moment he laughed at her grin , though he thought it was for the book little did he know it was for him , telling her they should go eat something unless she wanted to sneak into the kitchen once again but she stood up shaking her head this time taking the lead walking towards the hall Fred almost had to run to catch up with her after pulling himself out of a trance , and when they arrived inside she lifted her hand to wave goodbye to him but instead he grabbed her wrist though she flinched at first remembering what had happened over the holiday though she relaxed her shoulder thinking to herself that she was safe where she was , Fred pulled her over to where George was sitting and he motioned for her to sit and she looked around feeling unsure if that was even allowed but Fred once again grabbed her wrist pulling her into the bench. George began having a conversation with Fred acting like if it was a normal occurrence for Gem to sit with them and their house mates as soon as she began to engage in the conversations with them she heard a voice behind her "Ms.Malfoy" her postured stiffened as she turned around and saw Snape standing there and she began to get up expecting him to tell her to sit with her own house but he looked down and spoke once again 'good evening today I expect" she smiled and nodded at him turning to sit again as he walked away , when she turned to look at George he had a terrified look on her face "now what's wrong with you George , McGonagall got your tongue" George began to laugh at her attempt at a joke , "no I'm just surprised Snape was nice to you , what did you do to him , did you create a secret potion that you didn't tell us about that makes him nice" Fred let out the loudest laugh at George's comment and Gem smacked him upper arm but let it slide going back to eating and chatting with the boys. When it was over she stood up and began to walk out looking over at her house table noticed that they were some staring at her and whispering among each other though she couldn't hear exactly what they were saying and she didn't realize until now when she looked over to the same table she was sitting that were too looking at her , she could do nothing but continue walking her feet faltering and making her far behind the twin boys and they hadn't noticed till they asked a question turned around to see that she was in fact not directly behind them. They two boys tried to look for her but despite them being able to pick her out from any crowd they could see her white hair , as they began to walk back towards the hall they saw her about 10 feet from the entrance of the hall and she was looking in though she was pulled out of her trance when the two boys yelled BOO directly in her ears making her jump from the spot and turn to them giving them a glare that could burn two holes in them if she willed the power but they stopped laughed when they noticed her serious reaction "did you see that there were a lot of people looking at us" George shook his head while Fred peaked inside of the hall Eminem everyone either eating or chatting amongst themselves "you know Gem just cause you're cute doesn't mean everyone was staring at you" Fred tried to joke but as soon as the words left his mouth his cheeks were almost the same color as his hair and George was trying to stifle his laugh at his brother's attempt at being smooth. Gem stood still with her mouth in a straight line unsure of what to say next but George broke their awkward silence by placing a hand on each on of them telling them that they should continue walking before everyone exited the hall and it would be too crowded so Gem saw this as an opportunity to walk ahead of them thought they easily caught up with her , she would later have to thank George for easing them into a conversation the words said before forgotten but not really. The boys had stopped right in front of the painting which would lead them to the Slytherin common room bidding a goodbye to Gem and when Gem entered her room she felt the sick feeling but this time it wasn't as bad it felt like she was floating and when she went into her bag to reach for her book she realized it was gone and she knows exactly who took it.
