Look After You - The Fray "And I'll look after you , if ever there was a doubt"

It seemed to Gem that she wasn't getting sleep lately , she didn't realize until now all the things she had to worry about but she would try to get some sleep this night since tomorrow morning it was Christmas. All through the night she heard footstep to which she assumed were the cooks making a big feast so she could not fall asleep , before the sun came up she headed downstairs to the living space , she wanted a moment just to herself a moment in which she could just bask in the silence and warmth of the fireplace , when she noticed the sun coming up she went upstairs and woke up Draco with a pillow to his face , before he could hurl insults at her he stood on his bed with the biggest smile on his face yelling "it's Christmas" , just as he jumped down his father came into his room scolding him already and of course Gem stepped in telling her father that it was her fault so Lucius scolded her. Solemnly Gem followed Draco and her father heading to the living area , Draco was so excited to open his gifts , he started ripping the wrapping paper apart and was in awe at every gift he was so giddy that Gem had already forgot what happened in Draco's room . Her mother stood up and handed her a small box , Gem carefully unwrapped it until she was left with only a velvet box she opened it and she was amazed it was a small dainty necklace that had a small snake charm with a hint of green in the eyes , "since you got into Slytherin we thought it was fitting" her mother spoke from where she was sitting , Gem opened a couple more presents which included some new clothes and a couple of different charms she could interchange on her necklace. Finally they were ready to head to the dining room but Draco stopped them and brought out something from behind the tree  "Gemini aren't you forgetting this special gift from your boyfriend" , "what is that Gemini" her fathers voiced boomed across the room , "it's a present that Brian dropped of yesterday" , "oh so he has taking a liking to you , very well open the present" , although Gem didn't want to she now had to , she ripped the wrapping paper and found a long velvet box just like the one her parents gave her , she opened and inside was a gold bracelet with a pink heart charm hanging from it , Gem absolutely hated it , why did he think it was okay to get her a heart charm they had only spoken about five times and they were not very stimulating conversations and here he was giving her a very inappropriate gift in her opinion. She was about to lay it back in the box when her mother came up to her grabbing the bracelet gesturing for Gem to lift her wrist , her mother placed the bracelet on her wrist and clasped it , Gem wanted to take it off and put it somewhere she would forget about it but it seemed as for the time she had left at home she would have to wear. During the feast Gem stayed quiet while her father talked to his mother about something she did not understand , yet , but it seemed serious but then she heard her father say the name Serverus Snape , "I know who that is he is my potions professor and he mentioned that he knew you well father" , "hush now Gemini have you forgotten that you are not to meddle into adult business" , "sorry father" Gem whispered. Once they were all done eating Gem and Draco headed up to her room , she pulled out a book about mystical creatures and began reading to Draco about all the creatures and how they should be taken care of , she had noticed that Draco lost interest so she pulled out something that she had never shown him , it was a muggle book , "what is that Gem" , "it's a muggle book Draco , just don't tell father about it okay" , he nodded his head and listened to Gem read a book about all the landmarks in the world that the muggles seemed to love , Gem wondered if in the near future she would be able to see some of them she thought that they looked so pretty and no magic could compare to their complex structure. After a while of reading Gem decided to head outside and sit watching the snow fall but her brother did not follow suit , she was enjoying the quiet and only being able to hear the cold wind against her ears and cheeks which were probably now red. After a couple more minutes she decided to head back inside when she stepped in the door she removed her snow boots and coat , she heard some commotion coming from upstairs , when she made it to her room everything was on the floor and her father was frantically throwing more of her belongings on the floor , before she could say a word Lucius turned to her , red in the face from anger "where are the rest , you probably have more of them I know you do" , 'father I'm not sure I understand what you're talking about" , "SHUT UP , I know you have more items from those filthy muggles where are they and where did you get them from" , Gem's eyes filled with tears and she stayed silent , her father grabbed her by the wrist and pulled on it harshly and dragged her in front of her closet , " I SAID WHERE ARE THE REST OF THEM ,ANSWER ME NOW GEMINI NARCISSA MALFOY" , she didn't know what to do so she pulled on the small door she had discovered when she was a little girl and handed her father the rest of the books , he let go of her wrist throwing her to the floor , "and where in the bloody world did you get these" , Gem knew she couldn't tell him the truth she couldn't tell him that her mother took her to some muggle shops and bought them for her , "some of my friends from school gave them to me" , "friends Gemini , are you friends with some bloody mudbloods" , she didn't say anything only looking down at her wrist which was now bruised , her father stepped over her taking all the books with him Gem getting up and following him , she stayed at the top of the stairs and watched as her ripped the pages out throwing them in the fireplace. She ran back to her room and laid in bed crying her eyes out , she didn't know how he could have possibly found out about them she hadn't shown anyone except she did she showed them to Draco , but he wouldn't do that to his own sister or would he , he did seem to adapt the same views as her father but Gem didn't think he could be so cruel after all they were best friends they only had each other here. In order to calm her racing mind when Gem knew her parents were asleep she left her room creeping into Draco's , she sat on his bed softly calling his name as to wake him up "Draco how did father know about my books" , he stayed silent for what seemed to be forever , closing his eyes as if when he opened them his sister would be gone , but when he did open them she was still there , "I'm sorry Gem it's for the best father says that muggles want to destroy us they want to mess with our family and stop us from being pure" , Gem was enraged how could her brother betray her she didn't know what to do so she acted on impulse , she pulled out her wand and held it to his neck , Draco was scared so he began crying "how could you Draco I thought I was getting through to you I thought I taught you to be more accepting , I tried so hard to sway you against father's beliefs and you do this to me , you don't know how much those books meant to me" . Draco's cries became louder as Gem pressed her wander harder into his neck , but she didn't know what to do , she was just a scared little girl who felt hurt she wouldn't really hurt her bother she thought. The door to his room swung opened and their appeared their mom "Gemini stop at this instance" , she lowered her wand and sauntered back to her room , after about 15 her brother's cries stopped and she heard her mother exit it the room. She pretended to be asleep in case her mother walked into her room , which to Gem's dismay she did , "Gemini I know you're awake" , she uncovered her face staring at her mom , Gem wished she could throw herself into her mother's arms and her mom would hold her and tell her that everything was okay , but of course she didn't , Narcissa sat next to where Gem was laying grabbing a hold of her wrist , for the second time that day, examining the bruise that was now forming , she looked at Gem with an indescribable look on her face something Gem had not seen too much of or even at all , it was sadness and some regret. "Gem why didn't you just tell your father I got you those books , he says he's thinking about not letting you go back to Hogwarts" , 'mother if I told him it was you then he could hurt you too , and if he doesn't let me go back I'll find a way back because I love Hogwarts" , Narcissa sighed and just ran her fingers through her daughter's hair , no doubt she had her father's hair but she could see that she was similar to herself nothing at all like her father. She walked out of her daughter's room overwhelmed with emotions , she felt that she failed as a mother , she could never protect her and she had to deal with that for the rest of her daughter's life.
