Ruth was relaxed as she chatted with Ian, Philip, and Louis at supper. Ruth had eaten too much food, but it was delicious and she was in a good mood. Ruth figured it was from the bath that Philip and she had taken. Wine flowed freely and the soft din of people chattering filled the atmosphere.
Ruth toyed with her drink as she thought over the conversation that she and Rachel had had several months ago. Ruth still wanted Philip to go with her to New York, but she had yet to bring it up to him. Harvest was now over with and Ruth was putting off calling Isis to set everything up. It had been so long since Ruth had actively done anything with her books that she was a little rusty and way out of practice.
"What are you thinking about so hard over there?"
Ian's voice floated across the table to pull Ruth out of her thoughts. Ruth gave her brother a smile.
"Not much. I just need to give Isis a call and I've been putting it off."
"Afraid to get back out there?"
Ruth shook her head at the softness in her brother's voice. "I'm a little rusty, but that's not really why. I have kept everyone at arm's length since the accident. I have given a couple interviews, but no one really knows for sure what happened."
Philip draped his arm over the back of Ruth's chair. "Do you have some interviews coming up?"
"No, but I know that Isis wants me to get back out there and more involved. Right now she's busy working on getting the correct people to take my books to the silver screen. Once she gets the people that I want, we plan on having a meeting with them in New York."
Philip frowned. "Why not California?"
Ruth shrugged. "Isis prefers New York. I don't really mind. I'm not a fan of either New York or California, but there are more historical places on the east coast than the west so I prefer New York."
Philip hummed thoughtfully. Louis just blinked at her while Ian shook his head. Ruth gave them all a smile.
Their waiter came by to see if they wanted dessert. Ruth ordered some Crème Brule while Ian ordered the tiramisu. Ruth grinned happily over at Ian. It was a ritual of theirs that whenever they had Crème Brule and tiramisu, that they would steal a bite of each other's desserts. Louis ordered a piece of pie while Philip ordered ice cream. Ruth raised an eyebrow at Philip. Philip gave her a smooth and sexy smile.
As soon as the waiter brought their dessert, Ruth dipped her spoon into Ian's tiramisu. He shook his head as he swiped some of her Crème Brule. Louis and Philip carefully guarded their desserts which made Ruth and Ian laugh.
Ruth was feeling quite full when she got up from the table. Philip took her hand while Ian threw an arm around her shoulder. Ruth poked Ian in the side causing him to jump. Louis held his hands up signaling that he was not going to touch her. Ruth grinned impishly at Louis.
Ian and Louis headed towards their rooms once they left the dining area. Philip and Ruth wandered about the hotel not ready to settle down. They chatted about inconsequential things as they walked. They stopped before a window with an amazing view of the beautifully falling snow. Philip wrapped his arms around Ruth. Ruth leaned her head against Philip's chest with a sigh as her arms settled about the waist. Her eyes traced the path of the falling snow. Ruth was so happy. She didn't know how she could be any happier than she was at this moment.
